Won't be making it this year unfortunately. I have reservations at a cabin at Hobuck  8)

The official announcement will be up in a day or two.

No plans for a Barbie Tourney yet.  Did you want to take that on this year INSAYN?

I wish you guys the best of luck this year, and hopefully a great day on the water.
If all goes as planned, I will be fishing somewhere in the gulf coast about the time the ORC is going on.
Hoping to line up a date with Wali as well while I'm down there.

Looking forward to all the hoopla and pics from the ORC.
Go get em!  8)

It sounds like insayn will not make ORC this year. He will be missed .
Several other NWKAers have already stated that they won't make it as well--other priorities I guess.
If you take a poll ...I'd vote we keep the "Barbie Pole" competition. I've recently bought a new "Iron Man" pole so I can beat up Barbie.

  Anxiously awaiting the "official word"....

Is there any planning to do the Barbie Tourney and provide proceeds to Neighbors For Kids again this year?
I'd cast a vote to split the proceeds with the two NWKA HOW groups we have. I know both groups could really use a few extra $$$$$$.

As I mentioned earlier I will not be in the state, let along this side of the country during the event.  Think bayou sweltering heat.  :banjo:
I was just curious if NWKA was looking to contribute to Depoe Bay's Neighbors For Kids again this year.

Insayn, nothing has been decided yet on where the proceeds from the tourney will be going. If you guys have a charity you would like considered. Please send me a pm with the name and purpose and it will be seriously considered.

I know HOW needs money, but I'd rather pass the hat, or do something else to fundraise for HOW.  The Barbie Pole portion of the ORC just seems, to me anyway, to really lend itself to donations for the children's charity.

Oh, and further to that, when we get the PayPal link for the ORC can you guys add an option to pay the entry fee (last year IIRC it was $5) for the Barbie Pole event in addition to the $40 or so for the ORC itself?  Or, maybe just have a option for an extra donation with the ability to designate Neighbors for Kids, HOW, or whatever as the recipient?  Just some thoughts.  I don't know how easy that is to do though.

I'm going to be camping tomorrow night after six in the middle of nowhere......  I may need to 4-wheel to the top of the mountain for a phone signal and update on prizes.

I like the idea of donating to a local (depoe bay) charity since the event is being held there.  I wouldn't be against something else for the HOW chapters.

I agree with sumpnz here.  I love what HOW is doing but at the same time, I like the thought of ingratiating ourselves to the community that hosts this event.  I'd dearly love to see the locals touting the ORC as one of THEIR events.

Sorry INSAYN, I must have missed your post on not being around.

If this is going to an informal vote, I agree with keeping the Barbie pole proceeds for the local children's charity.

I give HOW support, and have many opportunities to - not so much for the other. I guess I could give to the children's charity anytime too, but signing up for the Barbie pole event makes it much easier. I love the idea that a bunch of out-of-towners give an unsolicited donation to a worthy group.

If you do decide to donate to the Neighbors For Kids again this year, you might be able to see if they want to come down and be part of the crew running the weigh in station, or some of the kids get pictures taken with some of the fish.

BTW, for those of you that didn't know this already, the Neighbors For Kids building is right behind the Shell gas station that is at the entrance to the Depoe Bay boat ramp.  Drop in and say Hi if there is anyone there.  8)

I agree with keeping the donations local. As many of you know, I spend lots of time kicking around the DB area and I don't know of many other/better causes than The Kid Zone. There's the Lincoln County Food Pantry and there's also the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. I really think The Kid Zone does good work, because there really isn't shit else to do for the young ones down there. The DB City Park kind of sucks (they try, it's not their fault, just a small community and the funds are not there) so The Zone gives them somewhere safe to hang out and some constructive activities.
