In a weekend where I landed my first springer from the kayak, I decided to hit it again today and had a solid strike but no hookup. I continued to troll around and at one point I got hung up on something in about 20feet of water, after fiddling with it for a few minutes I thought I managed to get my line free and then it started to shake and move! Reeling up what I thought was a tree limb caught in the current it then started to fight back taking drag. I was astonished that I had a fish!! Then get it up next to the boat and realize I had hooked up with an undersized sturgeon , still it was about 32 inches maybe 8lbs. A baby for sure but still a thrill as I have never caught a white sturgeon before let alone one from the kayak. Man the scutes on those youngsters are like razor blades! I thought better than to handle it and used my lip gripper to snap a quick photo and let it go to grow up to be big and strong! Also had a little chinook smolt about 6-7 inch bite my herring , he got the sharp end of a hook in his pectoral , again that little fellow went back to grow up big and strong !  Overall a great weekend with my first springer and first white sturgeon !!! Whoo Hoo!!!
