Saw this posted on http://www.kayakfishmag.com/.

In the video the angler hand lines a 100+ lb goliath grouper and story mentions that he landed a 300 lb one as well.

However....
1.) he doesn't even put his own bait in the water
2.) he used an electric motor to get into position
3.) when he hooks up a power boat tows him away from the bridge pilings.
4.) he's tethered to the power boat during the landing

I'm sure the fish was difficult to pull up, but he might as well have caught this fish while sitting on the transom of the power boat.

All 4 of those things makes this a bad "kayak" video IMO.

Heck.  Forget the kayak.  Just tie on, jump in and hand line that beast up "in-line".

I'd give it a shot!  100lbs is do-able unassisted in a kayak.  The pilings do present a problem though.  And who's to say you're not going to hook a 400 lb one :)

quite entertaining.

I give that about the same rating as feeding dolphins at the aquarium. Fun, but not really fishing.

My buddy has a pool. I'm going to release a bunch of goldfish and catch one from my kayak. Bet I'd be the first person to do that.
Joking aside, I wonder what it would be like to legitimately hook one from a kayak on rod/reel.

Lake Tahoe has goldfish you could fish for.  Some scientists brought up a 4+ lbs goldfish from that lake.

Why do I see no PFD's on anyone, especially the kayakers?  Does warm water completely void the chance of getting your bell rung as you get knocked overboard by a 100+ lb fish?  Drowning is drowning right?   :dontknow:

I see an inflatable PFD on the kayaker. Not ideal for a kayak IMO but a PFD nonetheless.

Big Fish. but it's not kayak fishing, it's sitting in a kayak but the power boat does all the hard work.  I've been in a power boat when my buddy hooked into a 60 lb Amberjack and that reef donkey pulled us off out anchor and towed a 30ft center console bay boat almost 1/4 mile. That fish is nothing compared to a Goliath. It would be cool to try and hook one from a kayak, but realistically there would almost be no way to get it out of the pilings, unless you had another kayak rigged up to help pull you away.  Lets start working on the ideal plan and send it in to one of those myth buster  shows , or Jim Sammons and his extreme kayak fishing show. I'd sacrifice and go to Florida as the NWKA representative ;)

Just to stir the pot a bit more...

The guy is using a Pro-Angler - did he really catch it from a kayak... or a boat?
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Last year I commented on one of their off shore videos fishing near oil rigs.  I basic complimented them on some amazing fishing, but did end the comment with "why no PDF's?"   Reply to my comment was a rant that included "because I know how to swim" and their saying if you drop something overboard,  you want to be able to quickly dive in to retrieve it and by the time you take off your PDF, it will be gone.

I see their claiming that was a big fish taken by kayak is like the guys on Wicked Tuna claiming all their fish are taken by rod and reel.  Technically yes I guess but nothing like from sitting in a fighting chair, or more so via stand up fishing.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

It's like hooking a cow.  :-\  Unless you're tethered to a power boat, it goes where it wants to and you're along for the ride until it breaks you off. Not real exciting till you get it off the bottom and to the boat which you won't unless it wants to (think cow in a trailer or some other place it doesn't want to be)

I'm sure if you fight with it long enough it will tire like any other fish
