I know this event is not a competition but I thought I'd put together a small token for the participants to shoot for. I'll also be bring some "whackers to donate to HOW to use however they would like.

Very cool Mark. Thanks for making these.

Thanks, Mark, awesome job on the bonkers!

I went to Battle Ground Lake today to check out the facilities. I was wrong about when BG opens, it's 6:30 AM, not 8 AM (those were the winter hours). I took lots of pics of the setup, there are two sinks, a decent sized prep table with elecrical outlets and six large picnic benches all under a large roof. There are also two small BBQ grills and more picnic tables adjacent to the covered area. It's next to a softball field and a kids playground but not on the water. There are nice restrooms and even a concession stand with food and ice that should be open Saturday. There is a nice swimming beach, water was 65 today, air temp was only about 56 and drizzling most of the day. I didn't wear my dry gear and got soaked and was pretty cold driving home since my car heater went on the fritz.

I arrived around noon and was on the water by about 12:45. Guy told me the Hatchery truck had been there earlier. Another stocking truck pulled up at 2:45 and dumped a lot of fresh trout. There were about a dozen bank anglers and two or three other boats out there and everyone was catching fish. One boat was consistenly catching fish before I was landing any. Around 4:45 they started hitting like mad on the surface and I quit trolling and for the next 2 hours I was getting bit nearly every cast just a foot or two deep. What worked best was the SuperDuper tipped with a Chartreuse Power Worm. Once they started hitting it's possible most anything would have worked. I landed 9 and lost twice that many since I was using a single barbless hook most of the time. I was just sight casting once they started rising, it was a blast just chasing them down, casting into the swirls and getting hit amost every cast. Probably could have caught a lot more but I was testing out the new Measure Net and practicing my Catch-Photo-Release techniques with the new net and calibrating it vs. my Hog Trough.

Put together a short video of the place, will post a review of the Measure Net later.

Thanks for the update and video Ihop. I have never  fished Battle Ground Lake before and appreciate the visual and written description you've provided. This should be a fun day.See you guys soon.

I will be bringing my new "Iron Man" pole to break it's cherry with a few trout. Gotta get it warmed up for a run at another ,more competitive fishing venue.

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

With all of the ORC activity, thought I'd get a quick bump on this, and check on status for the HOW event this Saturday...

We actually decided to cancel that one. We had some concerns with the Vets running into bank anglers on the lake. It's really narrow and we thought it would be pretty busy this weekend. Stand by for the next scheduled one.

We're looking for some on the water volunteers for our upcoming August 24th at Hagg Lake. Please let me know if you have the day free and would like to come out and assist. Bass and panfish will be the targets for the day. Please shoot me a PM if you're interesting in helping out. Thank you for the support!
