My girlfriend was pitching the idea of moving to Bellevue tonight. Aside from sales tax and the worlds worst drivers...how is the fishing? More specifically, how is the salmon fishing? Sell me on Washington!

PS Maryland drivers are probably worse. Take no offense to my comment! ;D

Wow, wow, wow mister. First of all, we have maniac lead-foot Canadian drivers to our north, and speed demon srewball Californian drivers to our south, and you are calling us out  >:(  Oh wait...I am not used to being on a forum with the whole west coast :laughing7:

In all seriousness, THERE ARE NO FISH IN WASHINGTON!!! STAY OUT!

Ok, ok there may or may not be fish in this tree-hugging state, but Bellevue is not exactly a salmontopia, although there are some to be caught  ;) I have never fished Bellevue though because there is better fishing to the north, and to the south, but I am sure others will chime in.

Hmm ... Bellevue...
The good:  Nice area.  Good schools.  Jobs.  Plenty to do.  Fairly close to mountains.  Close to Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish.
The bad:  Expensive housing.  High property taxes.  Traffic sucks.  You will probably end up driving several hours to find good saltwater fishing.

A couple good things about Washington State:
No state income tax comes close to canceling out sales tax.
Pinks - if you move up here this summer.

She hates traffic! I'd rather move back to Portland...she hates the heat too. I say we are fine where we're at! I live minutes from saltwater fishing haha. Thanks for the input so far and sorry for stirring shit with the bad drivers stab haha.

What others have said.

If I were moving to WA state today I'd try VERY hard to avoid King County.  Snohomish County just north of Seattle is a good compromise.  Lower taxes.  I would also avoid living within the city limits of Seattle like the plague.  High taxes.  They don't call the mayor "Moonbeam" for nothing.  The city hates business, hates cars, and coddles anarchists, occupiers, street bums, and criminals.  The feds are now running the Seattle Police Department so expect things to get even more political and worse.

If you have to move into King County I'd try for north of Seattle.  North of Seattle in either county has much easier and more extensive access to salt water fishing.

I would also avoid living on one of our very picturesque islands.  You do not want to depend on the WA State Ferries.  They are VERY dependable and safe, but add time and expense to any travel.

I grew up in Bellevue and now live in Seattle and love it. It is a beautiful place to live and has a little bit of everything. Demonick .... Why don't you move?

Bellevue is expensive but a great safe place to raise a family. The public schools are some of the best in the country.

I love the Seattle area.  Sure it isn't perfect--traffic is terrible, it's a bit dark for my taste in winter, and housing is expensive.  It's nice being minutes away from decent bodies of salt or fresh water, and a relatively short drive away from the mountains.

Are the salt water options as good as where you're at?  No, but they're here.  It would be nice if it weren't quite as long as a drive to the ocean proper as it is, but the sound and Olympics get in the way.

Is there something particular about Bellevue that your girlfriends likes?

If I could find a job on the coast and talk my wife into I'd move there in a heartbeat.

We have friends there. She also works at Platt Electric and can transfer into her exact position. I like where we are at...this town sucks but the fishing is really good. I'm sure we won't be moving anytime soon. She just seemed excited for  minute about the idea.

There are worse places to live than Bellevue.  Tacoma, for example.  I've lived in Seattle (a few miles north of the University), Carnation (east side of the metro area) and now Sedro-Woolley (10 miles east of Mt Vernon).  If I had it all to do over again I'd have bought more around Arlington/Smokey Point/Stanwood area.  At least I'd have stayed west of I-5 for quicker access to salt water.  Maybe the southern end of Anacortes where acerage is still possible.

I don't particularly like living here.  The fishing is good.  But I had considerably more success hunting when I lived in AZ.  Probably becuase they do a lottery dray for all big game tags there, so there's far fewer hunters in the field during the season.  I don't like the rain/grey skies.  Don't much care for the political atmosphere either.  Skagit County's not sooo bad for that, but when I lived in Seattle it was horrible.  If my wife said she wanted to move to another part of the country I'd be gone like a shot from a gun.  But she loves it here.  Her whole extended family is close by, as is much of mine.

I'd take Tacoma over Bellevue.  Old town area is nice and you're close to the salt.

Tacoma smells like chit  :puke: If I had a choice to move to anywhere in Washington (besides the east side), I would want to move no further south than Everett. Mount Vernon, or Bellingham would be ideal. If I had to live down south, I would live south of Olympia, or in the Forks area, or something like that. In other words, I would not live in King, Pierce, or Thurston Counties  :P I just hate the city  >:D

Of course I know you probably aren't going to listen to this because of work and it probably isn't your plan, but I had to throw it out there. But really, Tacoma reeks  :P (Hence the saying "the aroma of Tacoma")

my personal fav is tacomaroma... heard that smell is the pulp mill, I personally think its a sewage treatment station or something like that cause seriously it reeks (no offence to people who live in Tacoma but its the truth and you have to hear it sometime ;))
