I have had to use one and not had it on board. A slowly filling hull is an unsettling feeling.
Now the pump comes on every trip .... At least until I fix that damn leak!

Do you know where the leak is coming from?

My old Hobie Classic would take on a good amount of water in rough seas and I'd have to do some pumping once a trip or so. It's also good to have incase you flip and the boat takes on some water through the hatches. Mine is always in my bow.

It is coming through the front of the drive well. I am having a hell of a time patching it! Right now the leak is pretty heavy. Need to pump out evey hour or two. About three inches of water in the hull makes the boat pretty rolly.

That sucks. Can you plastic weld some more material in there?

I tried that too ... Plastic welding in that nose is a tricky task!

I could see that. If you haven't already done so, you might let a shop like Next Adventure have a crack at it. I would think the fine art of plastic welding takes a number of attempts to get good at.

There was a thread a few year back about an epoxy (G/Flex) used to glue a kayak back together that was purposely cut in half.  They then beat the crap out of it and it never broke.

Might give that a try?

You should talk Hobie it's probably covered under warranty.   Even if it's an older boat there pretty good about helping out.

That is an insayn video----looked like fun to surf down a gravel pile.

For Siletz Bay, which is probably what I'd choose as it's what I'd drive past getting from Chinook Bend to Depoe Bay anyway, would you recommend the inside or outside the breakwater areas?  Inside looks like I'd have to set at low tide just to ensure they stayed submerged, and not having crabbed river mouths before I'm not sure if they even come into there.  Looks like there's some potentiall decent terrain a few hundred yards off the beach there too.  Around 30-60' deep and sandy.

Still hoping for an answer to this question.

This is where I have found them.  I launched from the beach and parked near Moe's.

I was wondering if there would be anyone interested in doing a drift on the siletz during the ORC event.  being that i am new to kayaking, unless the conditions are lake pacific, with a forcast of getting better i will be staying on the beach.  the drift i had in mind would be:

http://books.google.com/books?id=Ge_xBfP51moC&pg=PA221&lpg=PA221&dq=siletz+bay+kayaking&source=bl&ots=cyYOU6ZBOR&sig=Lar1U_seOJ_ikLh_mcz1KzWgdWM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=L57VUcm-GsHMiQL2k4HADQ&ved=0CFoQ6AEwCDgK#v=onepage&q=siletz%20bay%20kayaking&f=false

If we left Chinook bend at 4am it's roughly an hour drive to the launch, the guide says 4 hours to paddle it, so i'd ball park 6-7 hours to fish it and an hour to drive back puts us back in camp around 1pm.  Steelhead and cutthrout should be decent acording to the ODFW rec report.  The ramp to put in is just upstream from the head of tidewater, and the tide will be just starting out and remain outgoing for most the trip.  The guide does mention a rappid, butterfield riffle, that is only present during low tide.

Anyone that has done this drift before that could share information on it would be greatly appriciated.  as well as any tips for terminal gear.  See you all next weekend!
