I am a "newbie" to kayaking salt. But not dangerous activities. The ethos of safety does mean do not try anything.Just use information  and know your limits...common sense? If you have never been out in the wind and you do not understand tide and currents-maybe wait until you have a buddy to go with and more experience. Its a shame to see such distemper on such a useful site.

This just happened last week. Let's see, current?  None!  Wind?  None!

Every time I asked a question when I first joined here, I received fire marshal bill. Why not start a safety section for those very things.

We did.  It can be found here:  For Safety's Sake
You should spend more time reading that board IMO.

I wear my safety-police hat with pride!  One of the last things I want riding on my conscience is that someone who attended one of my clinics died in a kayaking incident and there may have been something I could have said to help them from getting themselves in over their head.  I greatly appreciate the conservative, safety-oriented attitude that has existed on this forum for years.  We are not in SoCal, Florida, or the Gulf Coast of Texas.  There is a much steeper learning curve here than in other places in the country.  If you don't want to accept that fact, then please, hang up your paddle(or mirage drive) and don't make a bad name for the rest of us.
Now, where's my hat?  Ahh, here it is!    :police: :police: :police:

I'm half tempted to let he-who-shall-not-be-named back on the boards.  Just imagine it.  Dirk vs. The Jerk.  :boxing:

Come on Dirk... be reasonable.  I'm all for people getting a fair shake, but I don't think you are considering the "tone" your posts come off with... It would seem you read posts with the same tone you seem to communicate them.  Try assuming the best about the posts people typically make about safety, etc.  I get that you are opinionated... there are lots of opinionated people here... just tone it down a bit and offer what you learn as you go in a way that offers people your thoughts in a constructive manner.  That being said... if that is just how you roll, well... like Bobbi Brown said, that's your prerogative... well, he said it is "my prerogative", but you get what I'm saying.

Did I mistakenly log onto ifish?

Wait I don't have an account there because people don't talk about much and generally just square off against each other about moot points.

I've met you rev, and I'm being rational. If you can't go out fishing today on the sound you can't go out any day.  I'm tempted to drive to the sound and show a video of glass.
But as has been said on here, you shouldn't go out on any water if you can not recover from immersion.  I assume anyone out on the water will wear a pfd, I assume anyone on the water will have a way of getting back on thier yak.
If you want to fish saltwater more then 1 month of the year you will have to brave some wind.
So despite who ever comes in  and comments, admin, lacky, bass master 3000 wii
Fishermen.  If you could go on the sound anyday, today is as good as any. Keeping someone from doing the sport I love, under the guess that things could get dangerous.
Oh and for the return jab, you should see the diy seat belt and air bag I put in my yak.
