70 lb ling caught from a kayak

That was the title I read on another site linking to this page..

I was super excited, but you'll notice from the name of the site (pensacolafishingforum.com) and the fact that I posted this in "The Traveling Kayak Angler" that this isn't what I was hoping to see.  It's a cobia, a large one granted, especially for a kayak.   

I really hate regional common names for fish.  I did a quick search for "ling" on Google and came up with ... well a bunch of pictures of hot Asian women.  The point is that for fish "ling" is the common name for lingcod, cobia, burbot, cusk eels, and red hake.

SICK! SICK! SICK! I have never seen a cobia that large. That's gonna be almost 30 lbs of the most delicious meat florida waters have to offer. 

Those fish are so awesome.  I got a 32" one once and it smoked serious drag on my little baitcaster.  I knew it wasn't a shark.  Unfortunately it wasn't legal, but I was stoked to get one.

tough to target on a kayak because they are solitary prowlers and cruise around like sharks.  man i can't wait to get down there and do some warmwater fishin.
