bigger bait bigger fish.  I was looking for holes and ledges on the bottom and sent the jig down in the hole. Make sure you jig slow or you will get it stuck hard.   Try tipping your jig with real squid too.

Im not sure about location in the sound. Never fished there.  Good luck!

I usually don't use squid unless I am fishing 100+ feet of water, which you don't get to do much of in the sound :( The white grub and jighead is a known producer. This is going to sound different, but if you are not catching fish on it, try to just swim it (no jigging). I am not kidding just swim it.

And I will be at Edmonds tomorrow :)

You don't need bigger.  6" catches big Lings too, but bigger will keep the rockfish off.

Running your gear on a dropper set up will keep it off the bottom and away from rockfish.

I always rig the grub with the tail curling up on the same side as the hook, the opposite of your photo above. Does anyone have an opinion on this?  Does it even matter?

The tail have an easier time to get caught on the hook if you have it on the same side

Not sure what their selection is like yet, but Hoggs in Hillsboro show as the only retail store in Oregon for Big Hammer.  I prob will check it out this weekend.

I use the big hammer and hogy 9-10" swim baits with my own made 6oz. 8/0 hook jig head.
Also a variety hex bars and jigging lures with a single hook on them.
