I doubt this will be my go-to for the ORC, but I found this to be very interesting and thought I'd share.

Coast Salish Cod Lure. Source: NMAI

"For example, the Salishan cod lure above is an ingenious piece of equipment.  The lure would be mounted on the end of a very long pole, perhaps 15 metres in length, and shoved to the bottom near a reef.  A quick shake, and the lure would come free and slowly spiral it’s way to the surface.  The action would mimic a wounded fish, and predators such as ling-cod, which are large, aggressive fish, would follow the lure up to the surface, whereupon they would be harpooned.  Rinse and repeat!"

My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Pretty cool...I wonder where I'd stash a 15 meter (45 feet?) pole on the Outback???

With what I've seen you rig up on your outback to this point I'm sure you'll figure out a way.  You'll just need to think beyond your crazy back-up mirage drive...

I agree this is super cool!  It may not look like much but you would be surprised how fish react to primitive lures in situations where they may not have been exposed to any type of lure or fishing pressure.  I have fished a few rivers in South America where the fish have never seen a lure modern or not and it is CRAZY! , size, color, action, it matters very little, if it has any resemblace to a prey item, its a target. I've seen fish jump out of the water and attack lures hung in the bottom branches of trees! Makes me wish I had a time machine  so and me and my gear could go out to the coast pre-settlement and see what bites :)
It's not the destination, but the Journey that makes life interesting!

Slick. They probably used a loincloth on the rockfish. Thanks for the link

While fishing a river in Nanning,  the local guide we hired surprised us when he pulled out his favorite lure for us to try.   We had been having no luck with the variety of top water and soft bait lures we had bought in the city.   The only 3 fish caught were on these.   Not primitive, but so simple that I am still amazed it was so effective.  Coke was the color of choice.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Once they where done fishing they would play a game of badmiton?

Next time you're bottom fishing spray sent on a gummy worm, not the most productive but it does work.

At 8:53 they show a lure made out of three beer caps! They catch some sweet fish.

I used to catch bluegill on piece of tissue paper on a hook when I was a kid. You had to swim it by their faces for a reaction bite.
Relax. You'll live longer.
