I'm thinking about fishing somewhere after work on Thursday.  I believe high tide is at 5 pm.
Brian

Cool!

Thursday should be perfect timing for me. I've got child coverage and a enuf WAF for a couple of days.
Under the East side of the Hawthorne bridge is a fire station with a public dock and good parking. I hope to be there about 3pm till you get tired of fishing. :D  I'll be the one in the Orange Hobie. Anybody else is welcome!

Wali, how easy is it to get a yak down to the launch?

It's a long, smooth ramp and wheels would help but are not necessary. Two people make it a cake walk.

Curious, are you talking the ramp, just north of the Hawthorne Bridge, or the one just to the south that the rowing teams/dragon boats use?

Also, you thinking of heading up-river or down?

I'm thinking of trying to get out there, but work is pestering my plans.  Probably wouldn't be able to actually launch much before 5:00 or so though.  So may have to search you out a bit.

The "normal" trolling pattern is between the Marquam and Hawthorne bridges, up the east bank and down the east side of the channel. I use the ramp to the north of the bridge as the paddle ramp is often crowded. The north ramp seems to get hardly any use at all.

I hear that 5 pm is a great time to launch! ;D Finding me should not be too hard. I'm pretty sure that I'll be the only one in an Orange Hobie with a pink paddle top. (Hey, it  pays to be seen!) Just yell "WALI" once or twice and I'll come a pedalin!

I've got the yak on the rack...I'll be there right after work, around 5:15 or so.

Wally, Jay, Brian and I ended up doing some Urban fishing last night.  The company was grand, and the fishin was, well, fishin....not catchin.  I did get a couple of bumps, but they could have been anything.  Marked some fish that could have been sturgeon and some that could have been Salmon, but no suicidal ones...so who knows.

The 2' deck launch is a little tricky for newbee's like myself, but feel more confident now about now.  No big deal after all.  Not sure if this urban fishing is my thing, prefer a little more quiet and those darn bridges are loud.  Now Blues Festival...that's a possibility.  Ended up "trolling" along some spots that I've seen 100's of times, but never from a yak, and enjoyed the company, so all in all a successful trip.  Or as Jay would say, "A nice paddle [aka no fish]).

I know how you feel. There's a few great spots right in Elliot bay (right in front of downtown Seattle) and although some real beasts come out of there it's not a very fun paddle. If there's any waters that lead into where you guys were that are quieter I'd suggest hitting that up. That's what I do at Elliot Bay. ;)

Nice showing out there guys!

There's an "All Time" sturgeon hole just down from there.  Saw a keeper and an oversize come out of that hole two weeks ago, along with about 25 shakers.  Only complication is anchoring in 80' of water.

You'll have to point that hole out to me sometime Spot.  I think I have enough line on my anchor spool (~300 ft) to handle the 80 ft hole if the current isn't ripping.

I only have experience with one spot up there, the "Toyota Hole"  with 100's of yotas streaming off a ship and the ST. Johns bridge...Now that's loud!!
See ya on the water..

I agree with Scott, a nice paddle but the constant bridge traffic took much away from the otherwise nice evening. Are there other places to launch, just upstream, that might be a bit nicer? Is there a good launch around Oaks Bottom Park?

Willamette Park has a very nice launch.
