I just stumbled upon this some how.

http://www.kayakanglerssa.org/clubs/OperationDesKaF/tabid/131/Default.aspx

Evidently the "Kayak Anglers Society of America"  (I had never heard of them until now) is working on sending some kayaks and fishing gear over to to our troops in Iraq to boost moral and catch some barramundi.

Sounds like it's going to happen in the fall of 2008 so you have only about 6 months to get enlisted, get through basic training, and head over to Iraq if you want to get in on this thing.

All kidding aside, it sounds like a great way for our troops to gets some R&R and I wish KASA the best of luck with this program.

They (KASA) are also working on something called the Collegiate Kayak Fishing Series http://www.collegiatekayakfishing.org/clubs/

That's right the NCAA of kayak fishing tournaments.  I'm not so sure about this one.

This is cool !! NWKA should sponsor a whole Kayak setup for this. I am a fierce supporter of our military. I can sit here and go fishing without having to duck bullets because of there great sacrifice..

I'll put up 100 bucks to this end. Allen can you get a killer support our military deal on a yak and stuff? I can deal with the KASA end for NWKA if you want.
See ya on the water..

Good idea Roy,

Looks like you can make a donation to KASA itself via PayPal, but maybe not this particular project.  While I wouldn't mind donating to "Operation Desert Kayak Fish", I really don't care about helping to start a collegiate kayak fishing league.   I'm sure there must be a way to specify where to put the money.

In the past, NCKA has held raffles and has donated the proceeds to worthy charities and fishing rights organizations.  We're still pretty small, so maybe that wouldn't amount to much yet.  I'm sure we can think of something.

You're on Roy.  Contact KASA and figure out what equipment they want/need.  We can take up donations here and I'll get/buy the equipment at Pro Deal rates to send over.  Ask them if they need on-the-ground volunteers too, cuz maybe we'll just send someone named Brian over.   ::)

Thanks Allen.  As much as I'd like to see some of our troops catch  some 100 lb barrimundi from a kayak first hand, I think I could do without the roadside explosives.

you can donate to this cause, we should get a donation jar going and give it at one time in the name of NWKA. I imagine there getting very good deals on the stuff.

Cool Allen, It says there actively looking for sponsors, I'll send them an E-Mail and get more info.

LOL, good idea on sending Brian..He'll probably go fishing somewhere and find UBL..  :D

I'm not for pay-pal but my family is military cept me.
I'm gonna match bsteves $100.00.
Allen, please send me an addy to send a check/M.O. to.
If it happens, it should be good PR for the sport as a whole.
And a story for somebody like the Good Morning America crew to follow eh?

maybe we can send the KASA a donation for this project from the NWKA in aggregate?

I'm assuming that this all legit, I mean the site looks nice. Allen are you familiar with this group or their staff?
http://www.kayakanglerssa.org/clubs/KASAPrograms/KASAStaff/tabid/137/Default.aspx

I think a joint NWKA donation would be ideal.

Roy, "UBL"  what is that?  Is that like an IED or something?

BoxOfRain, I think you meant to match Roy's generous $100.

I'm not into donating cash for things like this.  I like to know where my cash is going.  So if I can get equipment they need, then it's all good.

Regarding being legit ... I'll ask around to see what I can find out.

Ah.. Roy.. when you typed "UBL" did you really mean "OBL" as in Osama bin Laden?  Or is there an Ulrich bin Laden I don't know about?

agree with all points made...
Allen, will work towards sending money your way... like the donation of equipt. better, too, than cash.. my experiences with 'charity" organizations, well cash/monetary instruments tend to end up in someones pocket  as "admin fees".  tangible / physical items, they get sent on.

no, roy's correct, it's actually U B L , also known as high value target #1.

since my employer is tied to the military apron strings, would it be ok for me to ask @ the office for information on sending donations?  i seem to recall our 1st and bestest site manager sending a large amount of prepaid calling cards to the 1st deployed Stryker Brigade for a christmas present from us to them..[ to "our kids", as we think of them,  since most of the techs/mechs on this project are vets themselves, and we know what it's like 1st hand ] we got a huge thank you in return  from 3500 troopies.

idea just hit me, but someone may have already mentioned it; even if this other group turns out to not be legit, lets go forward with some form of  it.. there is also Project Healing Waters stateside with chapters in washington and oregon, that takes recently disabled vets out fishing, teaches them to tie flies, etc.  we could donate to that too.

Brian, this is a good thing you've brought up..
