So let me start with, I'm completely aware of tidal exchange on duncan. I have fished there many a time from a pb. I'm just wondering if anyone has fished it from a yak and any quick pointers. I know yak trap has fished it. Any help from anyone that has actually fished it would be rewarded with a gold star and life time full of good yakkarma.

I've been there about 5 times, fished it twice in the past 9 years. Most the time there is too much current or chop. From a kayak there are a lot of places around Tatoosh Island or the cape that I'd rather fish. On a calm day try the rock gardens about 5 mile north of Hobuck launch, both productive and visually stimulating. Never seen a PB inside the rock gardens fishing.

I have been looking for the best day of the year with the lowest tidal exchange. I have tried diving websites, tidal websites. I remember the first time I ever got on that rock with a power boat. It was dead calm for almost 2 hours. Now though, I think that was just Poseidon laughing at me.

So outside of the rant, about how unfair tidal exchange is. How do I find the best tidal day of the year to get on that rock and then through the will of Zeus (sticking with Greek god themes) hope for a flat enough day to fish it?

Or maybe I could just chip in a little money to have you leave a lasso on it, next time you go on your bear grills adventure.

The two essential programs for tides and currents for that area are:

Dairiki Tides:  http://www.dairiki.org/tides/daily.php/nba

Deep Zoom Currents:  http://www.deepzoom.com/#/Views/Boat.xaml

Tides and currents are closely related to each other. You can go to the monthly table on Dairiki and look for the small tidal change days (neap tides), then plug that date into the Deep Zoom site and see the animated current profile for those days. Weather is another big factor but you won't get an accurate call on that until about 72 hours in advance at best.

This is how I do it: Pick a few good windows of time, keep your schedule clear for those days and watch the weather. Late July through mid-August is usually good with great weather and low tidal exchange periods. I'll likely hit it in late July or early August again this year. If you plan a set date you might get shut out by the weather. You gotta stay flexible on your timing for that place.
