All,

I know this is my first started topic and it's usually not the best form to ask for locations but here goes anyways.

We have a camping trip planned a the end of July at the lakedale resort on San Juan Island, I'm planning on bringing the kayak along to do some crabbing and fishing. After the map research that I have done I am planning on heading out of Smallpox bay to try for some Cabezon and Greenling, the map shows kelp in the area as well as great rock structure so I should be able to locate some fish. My question is where should I drop my crab pots? I am very new to the crabbing world and truly have no idea aside from the research that I have done about pot types and bait. Any tips and pointers about crabbing would be great! I will of course post up a report (hopefully successful) when I get back. (the trip will be July 25th -28th)

Look on your charts for muddy or sandy bottom.  Muddy is best.

I'll finish adding photos this season, but the text is there.

Demonick,

Great video and even better read! That was the information that I was looking for! Any depth recommendations or is it pretty much anything from 50' on with a mud/sand bottom?

There is a great crabbing area where Westcott Bay and Garrison Bay converge.  You will see other pots so you'll know where to drop them.  Depth is about 20 feet.  And its near the English Camp which is worth a visit.  Have fun.  Its a beautiful island.
