I will be arriving Thursday night and fishing Friday. Am I the only one getting butterflies thinking about ORC? I'm getting way too stoked.

So pre-fishing Friday will be my first time out on the ocean. I am pretty pumped to be going! Anyone bring a little fm radio boom box with them out there? Been combing goodwill for one so I can have some tunes while I fish. Don't really wanna by something new and have it get trashed if I dump it. Well anyways can't wait to meet a lot of other people on here and hopefully hook up some fish!

Your fellow fishermen would probably prefer it if you kept your tunes to just head phones.
Personally I get out on the ocean to get away from modern noise.

I will keep the noise down but I don't like headphones because then I cannot hear if a boat is coming my direction. Or if someone is yelling for help. When I say radio I am talking small not 80's boom box blasting tunes.  Plus I am hoping there is enough good conversation I don't need to drown out my inner monologue.

Your fishing in the ocean that's all the music or tunes you should need.

Have you thought about earbuds instead of headphones?  If you were still concerned you could leave one ear free.  I wear mine all the time on my daily ride/evening float.  Granted the volume is low enough that I can hold a conversation with them in but I can still hear my tunes.  Oh, and if you do go that route, waterproof box for the player is a good idea DAMHIK.

You bring up a good point. Maybe that's why LingBanger leaves the radio at home and belts out "hit me baby one more time" acapela style when fishing.

If it's your first time on the ocean, skip the fm radio.  You're going to have enough to deal with.   ;)

  That's a great quote Noah.
For those that haven't fished salt before this can also be true........... KISS or keep it simple stupid.

Not saying any of us are gonna do anything dumb--but------often times the simplest strategy is the most effective.
By now many of us are going through our tackle. A few of these jigs, a couple of these leadheads in 5 different weights, with such and such colored plastic, a few shrimp flies thrown in for good measure, oh, and my super secret weapon lure. By the time all is loaded up you've got 30 lbs of gear or more.

I'm not an expert---but I do try to minimize my gear.
Do I really need to take out this much stuff-----?  Well--it is a competition so I need to be prepared.  Right ?

  Maybe---maybe not.......

Just a little food for thought for us all.

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

I'm still trying to decide how I want to proceed for Friday.
I'm going to be fishing the willamette sturgeon opener on Thursday, packing my car for ORC Thursday night, then waking up early to head for the coast on Friday.
My dilemma is, should I set up camp then go fish, or go fish early morning (right when I get there) then setup camp.
I'm leaning towards the latter.
