Just joined the group and I am looking for my first boat. Visited some paddle stores and websites and like the Hobie Mirage style of hands free fishing but they are pricey. I have been fishing as a landlubber all my life with the occasional trip on a paid boat. Salt, Fresh, standard tackle and fly in both. I have fished mostly Oregon but have fished in Hawaii, Texas, California, Colorado, Montana and New Zealand.
I like the rockfish classic so after I get a good boat and some time on the water so I am safe I will give that a go. There are some large lings in Depoe Bay itself and my wife caught one from North Point Rocks there that was 42". We were not fishing for them so our gear was light and getting it up the rocks was a job.

Niiiice ling! Welcome to NWKA.

You might think about coming down to the ORC to see different boats and get some (biased) opinions. Mine is that while Hobies are relatively pricey, you just might end up thinking it is the bang for the buck that you have ever spent.

A) freaking sweet ling.

B) anybody ever tell you that you look like this cat, with a mustache?

Yes, I can always tell when his movies are popular because I get stopped at the store.
There are some big fishes in Depoe Bay. It was quite an epic day we were just catching greenling with 10lb gear from north point rock when this big girl was on my wife's line. The other problem the fish is at the bottom of the 30+ foot cliff. Some luck and angler engineering and dinner is served!

I will get out there when I have some experience and...... a boat. ;D
I do not have a lot of time for posting on forums but will try from time to time. It will be easier after I am out there so will have something to say.

If I am off shift I will try to make it down and see folks and get info and ideas. Good to see how folks with experience have their boats rigged and geared up. I have already learned a lot on safety and ideas here.
We go to Hells Canyon for a couple of weeks each year at the beginning of August so if I get a boat in time I will use it there a lot. One of the reasons I liked the hobie pedal power hands free thing. The more $$ I have to save the longer until I am on the water.
Have fun, be safe
