It would be nice if this site had a hookup section just like the NCKA site has. I would be motivated to get out more if I knew others were going fishing.

The regional section lumps reports, hookups, questions and what not all together. It is not easy to tell by just the subject line, if you look at the NCKA site it is broken down in an efficient way.
Sure there are lots of fish, but fishing is more fun with friends.
I feel the NCKA site does a better job at promoting the sport, camaraderie, and getting new people involved.
It wouldn't take much to upgrade this format.

Well... I was actually just trying to be funny.  Setting that aside.  I disagree.  I found that I can have plenty of interaction if I choose to... but you kinda gotta develop those relationships.  After 6 posts, 4 of which were in 2012 and 2 in this thread, you haven't been trying to connect.  Share some of that NCKA experience in discussions, etc and you will find that opportunities present themselves.  Part of it may also be that you are in Bend.  The most active segments of the community seem to be in the Portland area and the general Puget Sound.  I have never, that does mean it hasn't happened, heard anyone complain that the site didn't do a great job at promoting the sport, camaraderie and getting new people involved... well, unless (not saying this is you) they felt butt hurt about not getting invited to go fish with some of the more prolific posters.  I encourage you to get more involved.  Are you coming to the ORC?  That might be a great place to make some connections.

Yeah open invites scare me. If I'm fishing the ocean, Columbia, etc, I don't want to have to worry about the guy that shows up in shorts and a paddle jacket. If someone were to shoot me a PM I'm generally happy to invite them along assuming they're prepared.

Man, I thought this was a new dating part of the website based on the title!  :D

Yeah, the title does look a little fishy  :banjo:

I figured both NCKA and NWKA were pretty similar since they are run by the same guy, but I don't spend much time on NCKA. I have no objection to creating a meetup section.

That said, I don't think there would be a lot more open invites. I am happy to invite anybody to come along and fish with me, but I do not exactly share Noah's sense of responsibility for people I don't know. (That is what makes Noah a great fishing buddy and me not so much.) The problem for me making invites is that I am a spur-of-the-moment fisherman. I fit in fishing where I can. I try to keep an eye on the surf for ocean excursions, and if it is good, I have to hope it comes on a day where missing work isn't going to screw up my crew. I don't more than a day in advance whether those stars age going to line up. Otherwise, I usually just go for evening excursions on the Willamette.

Making personal contact is the best way to get invites. There are several tournaments that are set each year, and those are a great place to make contacts. If you don't know anybody - go there and meet them! The Portland area guys are lucky in that we are a large group in a small area, and we all fish (at one time or another) a 10 mile section of the Willamette, so we can't help but run into one another occasionally. Plus a couple of guys regularly organize open clinics and social meetups throughout the year. The South Sound guys seem to get together pretty often too. These events are usually published in advance - try to get to one and introduce yourself to as many people as you can. Be active in posting on the forum - everybody has something to offer. Send a PM to somebody that posts something that interests you. Volunteer for a HOW event. Take Noah up on his offer and PM him - he is a helluva nice guy and a great ambassador for our sport, along with many others. Invites will come if you put yourself out there a little bit.

When I zoomed in 24x magnification on the original post,  I found this at the bottom:

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

I set it up this was here because I like the continuity of having the hookup and the report associated with the hookup in the same thread.  It has more continuity to me.  To me it just works better.

It's easy to tell if it is a hookup or a report.  If the date in the title is in the future, it is a hookup.  If it is in the past, it is a report.

I don't agree with you Poleplole.
When I moved north I knew there was an extension of the kayak fishing club. I just didn't expect the website to be so different. My suggestion is that I prefer the NCKA format to the NWKA format.
This is just my humble opinion, I see the NCKA site as being more user friendly, and would like to see the NWKA site adopt a similar format. I feel others are making unsubstantiated statements without visiting the NCKA website.

The forums are different because the people are different.  Both clubs evolved as the communities evolved.  What works on one doesn't aways work on the other.  I haven't received any feedback about this (combined hookups and reports) until now.  I'd like to hear others views.

Keep in mind that we also have things broken down by states here as we cover a larger territory.  Having separate hookups and reports for each state makes for a lot of boards.  I've intentionally tried to keep the number of board manageable.  Too many gets confusing IMO.

I would love to see some rigging tips...perhaps broken down by popular generalized species?  ocean species, warm water species, river monsters?  then just let the threads go from there.  it would be a great place to start...for instance i have never fished for bass...but today while paddling down the Clatskanie river to eat up a few hours i saw 3 different big splashes in the weeds to the sides of the banks i could only assume were bass getting out of my way power paddling...would love to find out, would have to guess at the rigging though.  even bass gear that catches fish in eastern WA would be a closer place start than what "looks neat" at walmart.

I have a NCKA membership and I still prefer the NWKA layout. It's unique to our community. I can appreciate your affinity for the NCKA site layout, but we aren't NCKA. :)
