New to the Northwest.  Just moved here from northeast Ohio.  Sold off my old kayaking gear in Ohio and just picked up some good used gear here in Olympia.  Going out on the lakes this weekend to get a bit of experience in the new boat before tackling anything to crazy.

Welcome to some of the best fishing in the country, and the best kayak fishing forum on the web.

Before you get to the "too crazy" stuff spend time studying the entire NWKA forums and website.  Kayaking in the GPNW is much different than Ohio.

Thanks for the welcomes to the Northwest.  I have a question regarding the wild vs hatchery fish rule in Washington.  Does the retention rule of only hatchery fish apply to all trout and salmon or just Steelhead?   Thanks for the info    Trying to keep myself out of trouble

There are a lot of different bodies of water and a lot of different regulations.

Check out the WDFW regulations:

+1 on what Micah said... you just gotta read and re-read our overly complicated rules. :/

And welcome!  There are a number of us in the south sound area.

Check the regs at the link provided above for your specific location and date.

I'm not in freshwater very often, but I believe the major hatchery vs. wild distinction is made with Steelhead and Chinook.
