What a difference 1 hour makes.  At 5 PM yesterday I was in Midtown Manhattan dodging cabs, cars, people and trucks waiting for a short bus ride to my car parked on the other side of the Lincoln tunnel in NJ.  An hour later,  I was in my kayak in a river about 1/4 mile from my house casting for northern pike.  After catching 5 pike, I passed up some great looking weed beds wanting to have enough light to fish one of my "hot spots".

My first cast at the spot yielded a huge blow up and a miss.  My third cast hooked up with a great northern about 40" long that took me through the weed bed I wanted to fish.  I thought the spot was ruined, but man was I wrong.  In the next hour there,  I landed 4 more pike, at or close to 40" and lost a real monster in the 48" range due to about 5 lbs. of weeds attached to the spinner bait I was using.  I had my had almost on it's head trying to remove the weeds when it got off.

I just made it back to my car before dark and took about a 20 minute shower after rinsing myself off with a hose in the yard.  There was no way my wife was letting me in the house, having pike slime, mud, sweat and river water all over me.

All this action, 25 miles from midtown Manhattan.
