Sounds like an epic trip.  When we went out that way, Michele ended up fishing for about 10 minutes since the camera never came out of her hands.

Glad to hear the silvers are starting to show.  The net issue is still a tough one for me.  I used to carry my humongous oversize Kenai king net.  I could net a 75 pound halibut in it I bet.  But lately I am leaning toward the lighter more maneuverable nets.  Partly because smaller means less "sail effect", and they are much easier to handle one handed.  Of course the downside is they can cost you a big fish like the incidental halibut or even a King...been there and done that...twice.

Seward is on the list for the last week of July and then through mid September.  Then hopefully the silvers show in Valdez for a trip around labor day and then I'll be switching back to feeder kings in September!  Ack!  Hopefully I can make the time!

Great report!!!  Thanks!

My Seward friend who took her kayak out with me on Friday spent Saturday out by the Cheval Islands in a neighbor's big boat. There, she got 3 silvers, one pink and a white King. They're still milling around outside in big numbers, but just starting to come in to where we can get to them.

I love this time of year. What a summer we're having!

I'll echo rimfirematt, great report!  I've been tossing around a trip to Seward to try for some silvers, but am curious when the peak time is.  The pinks are starting to come in Valdez, though the commercial folks are out there in-force in the Valdez Narrows.  Hopefully soon the silvers will start showing up.  I've been mostly knee-deep in reds from the Klutina. :)

CRV83 -- I've always thought of August as prime time for silvers out of Seward. We traditionally chartered a silvers/halibut combo during the first week of August for many years.  Last year, I started finding silvers around North Beach and Derby Cove (west side) beginning July 16 according to my log. Haven't bought a charter out of Seward for a while now -- enjoying more the water taxi to camp at Thumb Cove or North Beach and fish for a few days just surf casting. Now with the kayak equipped for it, that's my idea of heaven.

Tough problem with those Klutina reds -- but I have confidence you're the woman for the task.  I'm heading down to Kenai tonight to dip net for my annual sockeye take.  Sockeyes for jars and freezer and smoker, silvers for lox. chums and pinks just for grins.  Great time of the year!

Let me know if you want a companion for Seward any of these next four weeks before the Paulson Bay trip. And of course, if you can make room in your schedule for that trip we'd love to have you join us.

I want your red problem CRV83!!!

ForI can catch silvers inside Caines Head third week in July. Two years ago the best day was July 30. Right off the beach at Millers landing. Then they moved off. August is prime time. When I fished off the rocks leading out to Miller landing, September 1 was the date.

I'm the worst at scheduling but my hope is to hit Valdez around Labor Day. Had a crazy good time there two years ago. Didn't try last year due to all the bad reports.   Maybe the week before Labor Day. Though fish quality might suffer some, they will be closer the later in the year.

The old Valdez report...
