What's the setup you used? I was out there Saturday morning and I trolled from 6:30 til about 11 and not even a tap. Marking fish all morning so it wasn't a lack of fish... Was using a Jet Diver 30 with a small dodger behind the diver about 20 inches, and a red hook or a piece of shrimp on the red hook about 12 inches behind the dodger. I didn't see many hook ups. I think it's a little early but obviously the fish didn't like me or my damn setup.

I was out there saturday, I must have been on the other side of the lake.  Sorry I missed you!

yeah like YT said, it's hit or miss.  yesterday - limited.  today - nada.  Got a few sniffs but that was it.  It can be an enormously frustrating place to fish at times (like today).  The bite was off for the most part, but there were people landing fish.  I am not afraid to quiz them, and I can't tell that they are doing anything different than me.  soooooo annoying.  But the days it is on...what a rush.

I personally like a downrigger because sockeye hang out at specific depths at different times of the morning.  As mentioned before, there are people asking and yelling out depths all the time (I almost always ask when someone hits a fish near me, I'm shameless).  But, a downrigger is definitely not necessary.  I wrote this up last year:

(instead of a berkley salmon egg, use headless pink-dyed coonstripe shrimp)

It's a fairly remote place, so if you're interested in camping (recommended) here's some info.

on the weekends the campgrounds will be full, but you can camp in the surrounding forestry lands.

Al right thanks. I was using coon shrimp pink dyed. I think it was just luck of the draw and yeah I was irritated watching schools of fish in the radar detector without a bite. It's about the only time I fish with the radar detector on (when I drop the diver). Most of the fish I marked were 20-50 feet. I did see two kayaks on the north side of the lake but I could not tell if they were fishing. I stayed on the south side for the entire morning. But the camping sucked because idiots were up til 2 am partying. I'll have to find a new spot.

I'll be up there this weekend in an orange AE Convertible kayak.  Hope to see some of you out there catching some socks.

Just returned from Baker a little early. The campgrounds were full by the time I arrived yesterday.  I found a nice spot off the side of the road about 1/4 mile before the Shannon Creek campground.  Headed out at 4am this morning to get down to the launch and get out on the water.  I rigged up with a hammered chrome flasher followed by two red hooks tipped with pink shrimp. I launched and headed toward the armada chasing the  socks.  I thought I might as well dunk my rig on the way out, even though there probably aren't any fish around.  After all, wouldn't there be boats if there were fish?  A couple minutes later, bam, 24" sockeye in my boat. No other boats around for a few hundred yards.  I was in 50' of water running about 20' deep.

I took care of the fish and then decided it was going to be a real short day on the water.  If the first fish was so easy, the second would be a piece of cake.  I put my line back out and paddled out the where the rest of the boats were.

After a couple hours of fruitless trolling, I decided it was break time.  I got off the water and went back to my campground.  I saw what looked like used toilet paper.  Then I caught a wiff.  Someone decided to take care of business twenty feet from my campground.  No way I was going to stay there tonight.  I didn't feel like breaking camp and driving around to find a new spot, so I cut my stay short.  All in all, it was a good trip.  Just wish I had at least one more fish to show for it!

Excellent work, even though your day ended up shitty :P

Sounds like most folks are scratching for fish out there, so coming back with one is a huge victory!

Thanks, Rory.  I don't think I would have even caught one if it wasn't for your posts.  Next year I'll plan in advance and try to reserve a campground so I don't have to put up with the mess.

Reserving a campground seems like a darn good idea. I was camping south on I think it was called Little Sandy Creek (free) and paddled up about two miles in the morning. I figured that I'd be smart and avoid the crowds at the campground where the boat launch is. Well, everyone else in the world was out there too so I wasn't looking so damn smart.
