I gave it a try a few weeks ago.  However, I was out in the morning for salmon/sturgeon and by the time I tried for bass it was mid-afternoon.  From talking to a few guys at the ramp on the way back in, evidently it's an early morning/evening bite.  After work tomorrow might be the ticket.  I'll look into escaping tomorrow.

Thinking of getting out of here at 4:00ish tomorrow, and luanching from the Swan Island ramp around 5:00ish, and having a cold one around 9:00ish.  Anybody is welcome to show up.  I have a rough map of places and lures to try in the harbor and have NO experience with any of them.,

Can't believe I'm still ahead of you on AOTY points Brian. You been forgetting your camera or what? ;)

Hey if there was a cumulative score for shaker sturgeon I'd be at the top.  I just haven't really had time to get out much this spring and when I did it was almost always for the elusive springer that never happened.  I'm hoping June will see a dramatic increase in my AOTY activity level.

I also just realized why NWKA AOTY is going to be significantly more challenging for me relative to NCKA AOTY...
a.) I'm still low on the learning curve for the area.
b.) The restriction on the use of minnows up here.  If you look at the NCKA AOTY almost all of the top freshwater fish are minnow caught.

Doesn't look like I'm going to make it tonight to Swan Island.  Good luck Scott.

Ooops.  Looks like you missed out on some AOTY points >:D

Took 10 minutes to pull in three crappie, but spent rest of the time trying for a SMB or LMB.  Doesn't help that I don't know squat about fishing for them other than tips from fishing shows, but you know how effective THAT is.  Might be good coarse fishing in there, but sure is some stinky looking water.  Think that might be a once a year trip, not regular waters.

See, there are Small Mouth in the Willamette.  I haven't found the BIG ones yet, but this one might be bigger by the next time I catch him.

This is a 10 min paddle from Cedar Oak ramp in West Linn.  And there is a speed limit keeping the fast boats away.  On the other side of the island is also a pretty nice Sturgeon hole...maybe next time.

Good work GBS. Looks like a fun time fishing on the yak! From now on it's just all upgrades. ;)

Nice work Scott, I'm glad someone is getting out and doing some fishing (and catching).  Maybe next weekend will be my weekend.

BTW, would you like to change your username on AOTY to match your new forum name?  Let me know and I'll change it for you.

Brian, that would be great if you could change my AOTY name thanks.

3WT - I tried the Tualatin last summer and got a few nibbles, but no catches. But that was before I went over to the "Dark Side" (aka lures not flies lately).  Sure was a nice paddle though once you get down in there.  The Launch in Cook Park is real nice if you haven't tried that one yet.  There seems to be lots of structure in there, that should yield some good fishing when the bite is on.  I saw a whole bunch of Bluegill being caught off a dock about a mile upstream from there one evening.

Scott,

I changed your login for AOTY to "Green Butt Skunked".  You'll have to use that as your login name when you login to AOTY from now on.

'bout a year ago, i read about a multi day float trip on the john day river for bass, and that it was probly the best bass water in oregon, but recomended it be done by boat/raft... anyone know if the reputation is valid?? had been thinking of taking some much deserved time off and giving it a try via yakking and camping ..havent much planned anything past that stage tho.

Richard-
FishingT did a trip and posted a report, last year. He did it in higher water, before the best fishing, if I recall correctly. Look for an old report. I think 3wt had some experience there, too.

I posted a bunch of info on the John Day in this thread:

http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,225.msg1986.html#msg1986

Unfortunately, between the high river flows, work, and my wife's grad school, I have not been able to plan a trip yet this year.
