40 total paid up!
and I know of 4 more that are paying up tomorrow.

We are almost at our goal!

Hopefully we'll break 50.  I talked to a couple kayakers on the water today and yesterday about the tournament.  Knocked em' dead today off Meadow Point with Yaktrap with 6 pinks total.  One was 25.5".  All caught trolling a flasher and pink hoochie though some guys were tossing buzz bombs.

Here's a little love from NW Sportsman Magazine on the event. http://nwsportsmanmag.com/editors-blog/with-pinks-ink-kayak-derby-should-be-a-winner-for-vets/

Was your rig weighted or using a diver?  Or were you just trolling the surface?

I'm using lead core line which gets you down 10-25 ft depending on speed.  Fish are up top in the morning and before the tide change.  I'm guessing a lot of the Powerboat guys were fishing deeper as I didn't see them landing many fish.

All the fish are coming on the surface. They come in waves and we got a double hook-up first thing this morning. Brad is using a large white flasher 30" leader and pink squid hootchie. I used a 0-size chrome/brass dodger a 18" leader and double mini pink squid hootchies. We are down about 5 to 15 feet with leadcore gear. It seems they are feeding near the surface, even if they hang out from 30 to 50 feet down according to the FF. I spent a couple of hours with a diver/flasher combo but only got a few taps and no hook-ups. The troll is slow, about 1.5 to 2 mph seems to be what they like. It's almost the same presentation that Sockeye like, maybe just a bit faster. They have very soft lips so a gentle retrieve is the key to landing them once they are hooked. The leadcore setup helps giving the set-up a big belly of line to take up shock, especially with the initial pick-up. These fish don't slam the hook, they seem to follow it and chew. Just pick up the speed when the tip starts to dip and twitch. A light banana weight, just enough to keep the flasher or dodger down would do the same thing.

Gentlemen Place Your Bets !!!

Not so much as a bet,  but free drawing to show your skills at guessing just how big of a Humpy will take the prize.   I would imagine the measuring will be pretty precise, as in down the the nearest 1/8th of an inch.   If a single person guesses a measurement closest to the exact winning length,  I will provide them a $25 gift certificate to the major chain sporting goods store of their choice.   If multiple people guess the same winning length,  they will have to split the winnings.    Hit the winning length dead on .... It is a $50 dollar gift certificate.

Color me overly optimistic,  but my very uneducated guess is   25 7/8"

Just for fun,  take a guess, other than yourself, who will be that winning angler.

I will make the prediction that if something extra ordinary should happen which gets on video and goes viral ..... it will involve Rory ..... gotta go with the odds   ;D
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Hahaha...thanks, but I'm won't fishing/competing. I'll be on shore handling things.

Islandson,  i was trying to go for good Karma points. Any input on the amount of weight  would be great.  I was planning on using a 6 oz  inline crescent sinker to get down .  But if they're toward the surface- that seems a bit heavy.
