WooHoo!, another turny!  ;D and right next door too!
Mark & I will be there! We will pay up next week.

Pinks are not my favorite of the salmon species to eat, in Alaska they are more of a bother than anything. I have been told "They smoke good" BUT they are fun to catch!!!
Donating to Poseidon isn't so bad, maybe he will grant you new armor & weapons!

Bare with my total noobness but I know nothing about pink salmon. What are the most common techniques for catching these things? From my limited research I found that most people are using pink jigs and buzz bombs from a power boat. Like I said I didn't do a very extensive search...it sounds/looks like a blast. I'm becoming more interested in this event.
Plus I've got friends in the Seattle area. I may have to 'visit' them. :)

The 'Alaskan Weighted Wet Fly' is one of my favorite pieces of gear for pinks. Cast past the school and jig back.

Would it be possible to pay up and sign a waiver the night before, or even the morning of?  In the event my tuna charter gets weathered out I'd like to try to make this.  But I won't know if the tuna charter is a go or not until probably noon-ish on the 16th.

4 in most places  (usually 2 salmon and an additional 2 pinks -> 4 pinks total if you only catch pinks)

Excerpts from the rule book:
--------------------------------------------------------
Elliott Bay Fishery and Closure: Waters of Elliott Bay east of a line from West Point to Alki Point closed to salmon fishing July 1– Aug. 31, except open Fridays-Sundays from Aug. 16-Aug. 31 north of a line from Jack Block Park through the north tip of Harbor Island. Bait prohibited and only one single-point barbless hook measuring ½" or less from point to shank may be used.

Elliott Bay Fishery (see 8 on previous page for boundaries)
Aug. 16-Aug. 31 Fridays-Sundays only: No min. size. Daily limit 2 (combined) plus 2 additional PINK. Release CHINOOK and CHUM. Bait prohibited and only one single-point barbless hook measuring ½" or less from point to shank may be used.
--------------------------------------------------------
So basically, stay north of the tournament site away from Harbor Island, don't use bait which includes artificial scents here in WA, don't use big hooks with barbs, and you can keep up to 4 pinks.
Relax. You'll live longer.

So that's what the 'bonus' bag limit means. I don't envy the Washington fishing regs. This sounds like a fun event. I'm definitely going to try and make this a possible trip! Maybe my boss will forget about me asking for so much time off lately if I bring him back a cooler of fish?

Thanks for pointing out that artificial scents are prohibited--I didn't realize they were considered "bait"!  You really need to go through these regulations with a fine toothed comb to catch everything like that.

Yeah that's a little tidbit that the freshwater guys have to deal with mostly. I think even salt-impregnated plastics are considered as bait. Here is the full definition from the rule book.

Bait: Anything that attracts fish or shellfish by scent and/or flavor. This includes any device made of feathers, hair, fiber, wood, metal, glass, cork, leather, rubber, or plastic, which uses scent and/or flavoring to attract fish or wildlife.

Andrew

You can do PayPal the night before and just turn in your waiver and registration the  morning of the tournament or mail in your paperwork now so I have it on hand if you plan to launch befor the gate opens and avoid the hustle.

Waders with a belt and paddle/splash top will be sufficient.
