I'm still thinking about the skills behind that roast pig at ORC. While you guys want to be Isaac B. when you grow up, I wanna be Dino when I grow up.

Isaac B roasts pigs in a pit he digs with his bare hands, then covers with palm fronds and banana leaves he harvests by hand from the TOPS of the trees.

In my youth I spent many years as a Calif Surf Punk.  Decided to hit the islands for 6 months.   Learned quickly that the locals had it dialed in and you almost never heard of them getting into trouble out there, unlike us Haoles who would show up thinking we knew it all.    No idea who this Isaac guy is, but I have a feeling he is safer knowing what he does than I would be in gear that would make OSHA happy.       That video of the Dad / Son time fishing is priceless.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

The top of a banana plant (they are not trees) is not very high.

Can I make an unwritten rule, which I guess I'll write down here?

No discussing the wearing of or lack thereof of a PFD.  Like all things, there are times you wear them, times you don't, and a whole bunch of times that fall in that gray zone that just aren't worth discussing.  Knowing when you personally should wear one, or not, is a whole helluva lot more important that discussing when other should or shouldn't.

I VOTE YES!

I think it would be ironic if those with an itch to be the "overbearing saftey cop" had their profile use restricted solely to the safety board for a week stretch per occurance. :P

From someone who has had their access restricted to the only the 'Chum Bucket' for a week, I strongly support this idea!

Sorry, PolePole, but for HOW events and newby discussions I can't obey your new "rule".

HOW already has a rule about wearing PFD's, so what is there to discuss?  Wear 'em!

But I get your point.  Really, what I'm talking about is the random driveby "you should have been wearing a PFD" comments, and the ensuing "discussions".  There is no hard and fast rule that says someone should wear a PFD 100% of the time.  There are always exceptions, and there are no hard and fast rules as to the exceptions.  It's just a source of endless debates.

Note, I'd never formally make any such rules  up, so have at it guys, if that's what you want.  I do reserve the right to banish you to the Safety Board if you annoy me too much.   >:D >:D >:D
