I really don't see a big deal here.  They restricted it in 7 dive locations, many of which are already off limits for fishing, now they're off limits for spear-fishing GPO.

BUT, I'm not against helping in the appeals process, because the econazis know no bounds.

We can't spear GPO's we can only take them by hand or line :o

OK, all angst and animosity aside, let's work on getting this repealed via appeal. ?

There really wasn't any valid reason for it to happen in the first place.

I disagree.  Public outcry from the diving community, whether we like it or not, is valid.  And it got a valid response, 7 small protected dive parks have GPO harvest prohibited.  (don't forget, the diving econuts wanted the entire puget sound closed to harvest and all they got was 7 small areas)

We can put all sorts of effort into this, and maybe succeed (likely not)

OR save our energy for more important battles like the Cabezon fight.

Public outcry might be "valid" in the sense that everyone's voice should count, but I think what people mean on this thread is that there is no legitimate scientific reason to stop harvest. I.e. emotion vs. reason.

I agree that there are probably bigger fish to fry (pun intended) but it's the "constantly losing ground" feeling that is irritating to me personally.

The decision never mentioned anything about science, and given the minimal restrictions they imposed, science doesn't really matter (in my opinion of course  :-)

I still think we need to fight this. The camel has already gotten too far under the tent as it is. I wanna bloody it's nose, give it a massive headache, and turn it around.

Sorry, Lee, on this we are gonna disagree, simply because i feel the fishermen in this state have lost enough ground already. Pandering to those who want to continue to erode our enjoyment of the resource doesn't strike me as good policy.

Didn't you say here one time that the citizens of this state don't have the constitutional rights to hunt or fish? If that's true, maybe we need to start there?

That is true.  There is no right to hunt or fish in this state.  I would love to see it happen, but King county would likely squash it.  Cesspool of humanity.
