I'm looking at doing a combo trip of Salmon and Rock fish on Monday. The tides look great for heading out at Cascade Head. After listening to Spot and Phil last night I thought I need to get my kayak wet. If anyone has any tips or better yet would like to join me let me know.

When we went out there in April we did not do well for either, but that was April. Most of the guys went north and found some fish 1-2 miles north of the river. I've since heard there is some good looking reefs south of the mouth. I trolled 2-3 miles out but only had one take down I missed.

Thank you Noah for the heads up. Last year I fished to the north and caught my limit on rocks, ling and crab. No salmon. Hoping to add some more fish to the freezer. Just need to not return on an out going tide. Heavy boat and fast current small piled up surf means you're tired and wet.

A quick update on how fishing went at Cascade Head. Dustin/Dbaum and I got to the Salmon River just before eight and headed west in the fog. The tide swept us out to some nice breakers that got us a little wet then we headed west to find some deeper water. We started fishing about two miles offshore in 160 feet. Had nothing but jelly fish fouling our bait. Once we hit 180 feet I hooked into a native coho. After rigging up a new set of hooks we headed south with the current and covered 2-1/2 miles with only two more bites. Headed to a rocky area a mile south of the river mouth to try for rock fish. Dustin caught two nice lings some rocks and a sea trout. I finished the day with two smaller lings three blacks and a nice sea trout. The first fish I hooked into I lost due to barbless hooks. Dustin brought up his first ling and coming out of the lings throat was my plug cut hearing. The rest of the fish Dustin caught were on the jig from the captains bag at ORC. The Coho was caught on plug cut blue label hearing brined in Pro-cure Premade brine in chart. I hooked up the hearing as shown in the little booklet being sold by Pro-cure. The tech. makes the fish roll nicely. Looking forward at giving in another try. Stephen
