Anyone else camping Saturday night before the derby? I'm thinking of hitting Potlach State Park Saturday and fishing the Hood Canal chum run.

I didn't know that the event has been rescheduled. I have to get permission from The Boss, but it seems to be doable and I'm thinking to participate.

This will be the first time I participate this kind of event. Could anybody make a fast-track course on what should I know, what should I bring with me and so on. I do have a kayak, safety equipment, radio, drysuit, etc. What else?

Check out the post on the first page for the specific rules, and page 9 has some good info about targeting chum and the launch site.

Has anyone fished oakland bay in the last week or so. How is the run going, still strong, or is it going to be hard to get some fish in the boat. Thanks for any info on the run out that way.

No idea how Oakland Bay is fishing but we are have the biggest chum run in the last 20 years or so right now. The canal was closed to seiners this week so there should be decent numbers with only gill netters working. As of last week I think the catch numbers were something like 500k fish for the seiners and 38k fish for the gill netters.
I expect fishing to be decent but fish will be dark. Remember to bring an anchor.

Sent from my Motorola Flip phone.

Thanks for the info, doing some research on numbers myself.

I fished it on the 27th and quickly boated several nice fish on herring under a bobber...I posted a report here in the members only section

Yup, Chums are no joke...they fight as mean as they look.

I'm not sure where the decal came from...my daughter got it for me and even applied it as a surprise (and did it to my satisfaction too!).
She said it gave my boat an "Air Force-y look" and now she calls my boat the "Flying Tiger".  I was actually worried that it would scare fish but it seems to be good luck...I'll ask her and PM you if you want.

nangusdog, it looks like it isn't under the members only board.

Also, did you put in at the launch just before you get to the golf course coming from Shelton that is just off Route 3 or did you put in at the spot the tourney is going to be at?  I'm looking to head up and try my hand at it tomorrow.  Looks like the water will probably be pretty muddy, but it's the only chance I have for a little while.

Hmmm, you're right... not sure what happened there as I always try to post to the members only area.

I put in at the turn out just before the golf course...it's small and gets really small at high tide...be careful and good luck!

After a bit of hemming and hawing it looks like I will be headed up for the Slayride to see if Craig can retain his crown.
Second place here I come.
Also besides gear for bobber fishing what else should I bring?
