I've decided to make 2014 one of the most memorable fishing years of my life. My objective is to catch as many fish species as possible in the states of OR & WA. I don't own a powerboat but I do quite a bit of fishing from my old 9.5' Wilderness Systems Pamlicos which I've outfitted for angling. They are not the greatest boats but they do the job I just have to be smart about when and where I go. However, it is time to upgrade for my big fishing year. I plan on kayaking fishing everywhere from the Columbia River (trolling for salmon), to lake Chelan (burbot & mackinaw), to Pacific City/Depot Bay for rock bass and lingcod, and I'm also hoping to convince someone to drag the boat out onto the big blue and do albie from a kayak. I'll keep the Pamlico for working smaller waters for steelhead and warm water fish.

A little about me:

Weight: 160
Height: 5'8"

I've logged over a thousand hours in my kayaks from backwater swamps in nw Florida, PNW rivers, and I just put about 8 miles in crabbing at Baker Bay. A little sore from pulling crab and paddling but ready to go out again.

I am not leaning any particular way on pedal vs paddle but obviously some of the fishing I will be doing is trolling and having my hands free would be a huge advantage. In buying my new kayak I'm looking for something that meets the following needs:

- Stability = important but I'm not a guy that needs to stand up and fish and I'm pretty comfortable in a kayak

- Speed = very important to me, I like to go the distance and prefer to keep my arms fresh for fighting fish not waves

- Transportability = I solo fish a lot so being able to load and unload by myself is pretty important (I don't want to lug around a 100+ lb boat

- Adaptability/Decking = some boats takes to fishing gear better than others, I want my fish finder, space for rods & gear, shrimp/crab pots you name it

- Budget - I'm looking for something in the $1000-2000 range.

There are so many boats to pick from I was hoping to crowd source this and hear your thoughts and suggestions. Be as specific or as critical as you would like and thanks in advance.

Revo. In addition to being really nice for trolling, it also allows you to fight a little wind in the big blue and not get blown all over the place. The adventure is a really nice boat too but it's a little over your price range and a bit more difficult to transport due, to the extra length. Many consider it the best all around Hobie/Kayak for the NW.

The revo is a great all around boat, but if you have a boat for skinny, small water then get an Adventure. They are the fastest sit on top fishing kayak and are plenty stable.
If you want a paddle boat it is really hard to beat a OK Trident.

Have fun.

Ditto, ditto, and ditto.

Revo13 for pedals.
OK Trident 13 Angler for paddles.

Then search this forum for rigging ideas, tips, instructions.
