I'm going to try Bowman Deception pass this Friday (forget black Friday :D)  I have never fished the area but though I would see if there were any greenling or cabezon.  I might also soak some crab pots.  Any words of wisdom are always welcomed.  Happy Thanksgiving to all the NWKA brethren and their families.  Wayne

I've fished the island in the pass (between canoe channel and the main channel) it's fairly good. You'll need to be on the lee side of the current in an eddy. The smart fish sit there waiting for a meal to blow past. Bring plenty of gear, it's real snaggy.

I thought cabezon was closed by now.  Might have to officially limit your targeting to greenling.   Nevermind - just checked and it's open until the 30th.  Thought it closed sooner.

It's a nice spot.  Easy launch, usually pretty calm water (at least in the summer).

The tides don't look too bad on Turkey day.  I have launched and fished there often in the past, and have always been able to catch greenling around Deception Island.  I haven't been out there in a couple of years now, so I'm not familiar with the current regulations.  I do know that you used to get a ticket if you even touched the launch ramp without paying a launch fee.  Of course you do need a Discover Pass to park anywhere down there.  There are plenty of kelp beds in and around the bay that hold greenling also, so it's not necessary to make the trip out to Deception Island to catch fish.

Enjoy your trip,

Had a great day at Bowman Bay.  It was a bit windy and I was surprised by the size of the swells.  Not in the adventurous mood I stayed on the bay and fished the kelp beds.  I picked up a 20 in ling near the kelp beds-released (i didn't realize that they would be in that shallow of water - 20 ft). Also caught a few small greenling.  The crab pot was empty though.  Being the first time fishing the bay, it turned out well.  I'll try again in December for crab rover winter break.

Cool you got out! It's a nice place to be and bending the rod a bit sure is nice.
