I need to upgrade my kayak carrier to make loading easier on the back and on my paint jobs on my Subaru. I spoke with the folks at Rack Attack and they recommended the Thule Glide and Set over Yakima's Make paddles and Hulley Rollers. Anybody on here use the Thule Glide and Set or have experience with them?

I have the Thule Glide and Set on my truck's lumber rack. I like them. Others will say you should transport your boat upside down or sidewise. I think I had to buy replacement mounting bolts because my lumber rack cross members were too thick.

The Glide pads are very slick, and if I am going to travel far or fast (highway) I drop a small patch of non-skid shelf liner over them. They have been on my lumber rack for over 3 years outside and seem to be holding up very well. They allow me to easily load my Revo13 solo without having to deadlift it.

I also have a set of Thule Hull-a-Port for when I need to carry 2 yaks.  One loads onto the Glide and Set, the other on the Hull-a-Port.  The Hull-a-Port I put on and take off as needed.  They are a sidewise carry, and more difficult to load a boat solo.  I only use them once or twice a year and they hang in my garage.
