Oh ... the AOTY site is ready to go.  Sign up!

Are we supposed to receive additional information on how to submit fish entries after paying?
Send a PM to bsteves or polepole and they should be able to fix you up.

Create an AOTY account (follow the AOTY tab at the top of the home screen)
The admin will link it to the leader board once your payment is verified
Once you're signed in, you'll see a tab callled "My Fish" where you log your catches.

I am curious what the prizes are. I realize that's not the primary reason most people do AOTY, but I'm still curious.

When are those decided/announced? What were the 2013 prizes?

I think I'd have to fish more than I'm going to be able to this year to be competitive, but I'm still curious. I'm especially interested in some of the smaller sub-pools where I feel I'd have a better chance at being competitive.

The real prize is what you'll learn from all the extra fishing you'll be doing in fisheries you never considered before.

In that regard, everyone wins.

LOL! I read that in an overly-dramatic newscaster voice and it was pretty funny. I did say "I realize that's not the primary reason most people do AOTY, but I'm still curious." I think it's fair to understand what your $40 might get you, since it is a competition.

Also I caught 10 eligible species last year, so I'm doing fine, thank you. I'm naturally curious and need no further motivation to try new fishing.

Look back through the forum and find the 2012 AOTY official results or even the 2011 official results threads and that will also give you a good idea in addition to what Allen just posted.  Expect an official results/prize thread for 2013 soon.  Keep in mind, the people who coordinate this stuff have full-time jobs and families so if it's late that's just the way it is.  I can assure you that the prizes are certainly worth it.   ;)  I think I was 6th or 7th last year and I easily got my entry money back and then some considering the retail value of the prize.

Thanks, Allen, I appreciate the info! Looking forward to the official 2013 results. My competitive side wants to join but my fisherman side just wants to relax and fish... hmm.... :)

Cap'n, You can be chill and still compete! Strive to improve your own scores and don't focus on what is going on with the leader board. That's how I continued to have fun with AOTY.  I probably could have fished harder but who knows if that would have made a difference in my placement?  At least I had fun targeting new species and beating some of my personal bests. I learned a lot from my own trials as well as from the other guys competing. I'm proud to say that all of my  top 10 entries were retained no more than an hour drive from my house!  AOTY for me was less about getting my $40 back and more about what I could achieve. It was a great way to log my year and what an amazing year it was!

I look forward to 2014 AOTY.  The game plan is different but the effort is still about the same  ;D

If it makes you feel any better the winner did a 150+ mile solo kayak trip to find his fish....

I'm solely doing it to have a shot at the really cool signatures the past winners can put down...very jealous. Lol.

I really need to take it more seriously. I've entered the past two years but rarely submit something.  Hoping to change that this year

I used to consider myself a pretty dang good fisherman, but what AOTY had shown me is really I'm only good at a few species and no where close to being a well rounded fisherman which I strive to be. Going to try and expand my horizons a bit using AOTY as my motivation.

I just paid up.  I like that it supports the site even though I don't have much chance of winning.

Any good IT jobs open over near the coast? :)

Got another question. I expect to visit some water bodies this year that have brown bullhead. Does that fall under "catfish" for AOTY? It looks like there were more that one species submitted last year. I've got to admit I don't know much about catfish.
