Nope. I've was hoping something would come out of the board of fish. Because if it's going to be halibut only, it'll likely change something. Maybe a change of venue but at the very least a look at the tides and dates to optimize for halibut.

They just came out with some pretty extreme measures to conserve the early run kings from the Kenai river south. BUT they will, at least as of now, allow two kings per season in the marine waters. Fishing can be good in May for those. Halibut fishing gets better from May through July and stays steady through September maybe August.

What do people think?  I'm not wed to anything. If we want to fish kings, I suggest early to target the feeders and not the depleted runs. I'm also ok with a later date for a halibut only derby.

I'm looking for maximum participation.

Late June or Early July gets my vote....warmer weather and more halibut activity

Im up for anytime. Everyone is making good points about May vs Later. I have had my best luck for kings in may along the beach there.

It can be pretty tough fishing there, but man first thing in the spring time is when I feel extra motivated to do it. Remember those surf pics from last year? Would you try that stuff in June?!

I think Last spring was a bit of an anomaly maybe with that snow we got. Then again it is alaska.

Course I have had some nice halibut action in June too. Along with pretty spectacular weather.
