Backpacking Stoves

As an admitted stove dork (I think I have 8+)

I guess I'm not the only one.
I am up to 10 stoves and for the money, the Primus Micron cannot be beat (around $20 at Sierra Trading Post).
I also bring a super light Vargo alcohol stove for water boiling only.

It uses wood and you can charge your phone while you cook!

Whisper light international. .... multi fuel and very reliable. My favorite for sure.  Not as temperature sensitive either

I like my jet boil,  but not a fan of the fuel cannisters.

I have used a few stoves but this is my go to favorite stove. It boils water fast its cheaper than dirt and it works every time. You can spend money on your MSR or you can save money and buy this. Ultralight Backpacking Canister Camp Stove with Piezo Ignition 3.9oz (silvery Stove and orange box)

I've used both the whisper light and the pocket rocket and I prefer this thing. Spend the money you saved on a nice light weight cook set.

A word on the biolite stoves: I've used one. It is an interesting concept and I think might work well for extended (over 10 days) backcountry travel. The ability to charge small electronics is definitely a bonus. but overall I wouldn't recommend it - it's heavy for what it is an bulkier than it looks. I wouldn't justify it for any typical backpacking trip inside of 50 miles.
