All I can say is WOW My buddy snuck his nucanoe into the pool where our other friend works and it is the most stable boat I could sit on the side and it wouldn't flip I would so run the rivers in that boat. With out worry..err maybe not in that real high seat but in the lower one for sure

Let me know if you need a crash-test dummy to give it a test run on one of the coastal rivers!   ;D

I'd love to see just a little more kick front and back and a softer nose but I think that dog would hunt.

-Spot-

I am with spot on this. Would love to give it a try.

That paddle used in the video is about a mile long! Definitely not a boat I'd want to cover any ground while paddling bit should be a decent river runner with oars.

I test paddled a Frontier possibly three years ago from the dealer where I live here in Salem, OR. A couple of months after the test paddle I saw him with product at the Portland, OR Fishing Expo. I did not buy the Frontier for two reasons. First was vanity... I'm not too sure if this thing is a kayak, canoe or pointy end Jon boat; that said when we took it out to a local lake it drew some fairly strange looks from bystanders. I hate drawing attention to myself and the NuCanoe would do just that. Second, was a combination of the paddle at 275cm and back then the lack of bow and stern handles. The NuCanoe is a real bear to turn over (loaded with hull up on a roof-rack) without some place to grab hold of. It is heavy and very awkward to maneuver on land. Third, there was no option to mount oars like this new set up. I spoke with Blake (the owner?) several times over this past couple of years to find out when a rowing rig could be ordered. The last time I spoke with him, probably 6-8 months ago, this was not yet in the production stage.

I see the newer ones have bow and stern handles, and others have added handles; see photo. What sold me on the boat was first the stability. I have a 12' Pram (Jon boat) and the way the pram hull sweeps up at the bow the wetted surface area is drastically reduced. On the NuCanoe, the entire bottom is wetted area, creating more stability. Second I was impressed with the tracking, even though it is rated as a slow boat. and third there are a ton of videos available to see how the craft reacts in rivers, surf launched, rigged and modified. Apparently, even though the boat is a bit of a bastard as far as kayaks are concerned, it is quite popular. If you think this could be your next river boat... bring up You Tube and search for "NuCanoe Paddling". If you think you'd like to surf launch, try "surf launching the NuCanoe" as a search parameter on You Tube.

I probably ought to give the NuCanoe a second look as a possible for my kayak/small boat purchase.
I'm guessing my hesitation is reason #1 Vanity... When I lived in San Francisco I owned a Pacific Seacraft Flicka sailboat. Possibly the most capable 20' sailboat ever created. I used to get so pissed when someone in another "lesser" craft would blurt out... "My friend Flicka" in reference to the horse. I opted to sell the boat to buy another Pacific Seacraft sailboat; the 24' Dana. True; both sailboats were excellent and capable... The Dana drew praise, not snide remarks... Yea I know "I'm so vain" it's a curse LOL!

Still looking for the right fishing kayak
