Hey guys my buddy and I want to dive haystack on friday. The swell and winds do not look to bad but the tide will be changing by 7ft! My question is how bad does the current rip out there? If we jumped in do you think we would be fighting to stay in place? We are thinking of being on the ocean side of haystack thinking that might provide some shelter from the out going. I havnt been out there on a large exchange so I dont know  :-\

In my experience the current off the coast doesn't really correlate with the tidal cycles like it does in the bays.  Sometimes it's ripping off the coast, sometimes it's pretty calm.  I haven't found a reliable way to predict the near-shore currents.  One thing that's certain is that at PC the currents are usually always either north to south, or south to north and it's usually running from north to south.

Last Saturday the current at PC was south to north then switched north to south. Also the free divers said visibility was only around 7-8 feet. Most likely due to the big tide swings last weekdnd

Got Google maps? And an android phone? If so check out www.yoyana.com/Currents
Its overlay software showing currents  that works with googlemaps.
