Just wondering if anyone could fill me in on oregon overhang laws for pickup trucks.  I know I could search for it but I hate interpreting technical and legal jargon bs.  So if anyone can let me know with a cut and dry answer I would be thankful.  Also is the measurement from the edge of the bed with tailgate down or edge of tailgate with tailgate down.  Getting closer to purchase and someone told me something about this rule.  My "only" option (by choice) is truck bed transport with 6.5 ft bed and getting one of those truck bed extender T-bar things.  I guess this may decide for me wether it be outback or revo.

Any overhang that extends more than 48" past the vehicle requires a 12"x 12" flag attached to the end.

easy enough thanks for the quick reply.  Has anyone had any experience with the t-bar bed extenders??  I know harbor freight sells one but I don't know if the quality is of the pot metal type like everything else they sell. :o  I am leaning toward the hitch rack brand due to the bend in the middle of the extension bar which looks like it would increase the strength over straight bar.

They work well to extend the bed, BUT... you still need the red flag for anything extending 48" or more to the rear.  Loads may not extend beyond the width of the bed to the sides and may not decrease driver's rearview mirror visibility.

I have the Harbor Freight T-bar and it seems to work fine.  I have a 2013 Tacoma and the height is just right for the bed.  It seems really solid for being a Harbor Freight product and the cheapest hauling option I found.

Good to know about the size of the flag.  I've just been using the 4x12 red flag that came with my boat from Next Adventure.

There is a max length that you can extend and it depends on the length of your truck.  I'll edit this post when I find the exact measurements.  I asked the local Sheriff about this a couple years ago.

OK here it is.
A solo vehicle may have up to ¾ of its wheelbase as rear overhang.
Remember the 40’ overall length for a solo vehicle includes any load.
Rear overhang can be either vehicle or load and is measured from the
center of the last axle.

For a nice little picture, check out page 15 of this.
