Anyone ever mount things up like this?  Seems I've seen it somewhere. I am wanting to avoid putting holes in a yak.

No image cause the statement referred to the subject. I'm wondering if anyone has experience mounting the transducer over the side.

As I recall JamesC has also done a similar RAM arm setup.

YakAttack has come out with this as well. Basically an entirely self container unit. Slide it on to the GearTracs when you need it slide it off when you're storing it.

I was considering going with this Cell Block method for switching out between 2 boats, but with this method there is no problem. I can just as simply remove the RAM extension arm for the head unit and the 1" deployment arm and attach it to the Hobie. All the cables just route through the hatch. Granted, the forward hatch is not 100% sealed with cables going through it this way, but it is definitely tidy and makes transport and stowing a snap!

I have the RAM Transducer Deployment Arm. It works just fine for hanging your transducer from. The only thing I do not like about it is the noise it makes when cruising. It's not too bad when you are trolling at a very slow speed or in the ocean, but on a quiet lake or river it is very noticable and can get caught in the weeds. Other than that it works great.

I put together an over the side unit using a plastic cutting board. All the extra wire just fit inside. The transducer arm is adjustable with a wing nut. The whole thing is mounted using a ram mount. It's easy to access the buttons, and easy to read. I thought it might get in the way during salmon season, but it didn't. I landed both my fish on that side of the yak with no problems.

I made a mount for my DSI 5. It works good. If you want I can dig it out and get some photos on how it was built.

I'm using the RAM transducer arm for the transducer of my Humminbird 798ci and I'd say I'm pretty happy with it.  It is pretty noisy when you are cruising, as previously mentioned, but it provides a perfect signal return.  I have noticed that it slows me down just a tad, I would say by about 0.3 mph.

Willbd, why are you using two fish finders at the same time?

With the side mounted set-up, do any of you noticed any interference from the mirage drive system?

I have been using the suction cup with my Hummingbird. Works just fine.  Have to clear weed debris once in a while is the only draw back.
