Rudy when we were anchoring with our kayaks at WG, all we used were circle hooks except my bro who like to set the hook. I think we missed 3 or 4 fish with circle hooks by setting the hook to early. What I ended up doing is when I felt the bite, I would give the halibt like 2 seconds, reel in the slack,  then pull up on the rod hard with a steady motion. That would set the hook. After feeling the weight of the fish and having the hook set, the fish usually ran, standard halibut fights. You know what to do with the rest. Good luck looks like a blast! The silvers look HUGE!!!

Great teaser video. Look forward to the whole thing.

The "grizzly" look is pretty cool too. Others do the same ?

And that is a bad assed butt.......WTG.

That thing is a beast! Rudy caught more halibut than anyone on the trip...AND, he caught the biggest one. He made up for the poor showing the other Anchorage fisher had...  :-)

If you want to hear more about Rudy's fishing trip, check out my new site "www.F-YouRudy.com"  ;-)

We all know I got lucky.

You're too humble Rudy.

It's no coincidence that Rudy found "the hole" that produced his hundy in addition to a 50 for me and a 60 for mark, as well as a couple 40's and a smattering of smaller chickens.  And on a day the rest of us blanked in tough fishing conditions, Rudy stuck 2.  Rudy does the research, puts in the time, has a plan, and executes.  Now, if he can just figure out the circle hooks ... LOL!

Rudy is an ANIMAL!  I can't tell you how many times the words "That Fxxxing Rudy!" were heard on VHF Channel 69 around Kodiak last week.   ;D  The guy could find em in the most unlikely (to me) places.
