Man, I really want to go. What is the acceptable age to take children kayak fishing? Like 2?

It all depends on how long they can sit still. My daughter will be out this summer. She turns 3 next month. I took her last year but her attention span got the better of her.

I've updated the front page with the anglers that have registered so far.

10 is a good start...

I've gotten a couple reports that the bite is starting to turn on.

I'm trying to make this work.  That's a busy time for me, but hopefully I will be able to make it.

Good call, I'll spread the word either way.

Any updates on the camping situation?  Also, not sure if I missed it but is there any other fishing restrictions (distance from Hood River) other then we need to fish between Bonnieville and The Dalles Dam?

Is there a deadline to sign up? Can you sign up at the kayak shed a day or so before?

Sooner the better but I believe registration will close a week before the event.

Unfortunately the private camping that we had hoped to set up wasn't able to work out. However there are plenty of spots in the area where you'll be able to camp. The link below is a list of camping facilities in Hood River County.

http://hoodriver.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/CAMPING-info.pdf

The only restrictions to the fishing grounds are that it is between Bonneville Dam and The Dalles Dam and that you are able to access it from the main stem of the Columbia.

The deadline for online registration will be May 11th.

So have any of you made camping arrangements yet? I was thinking:

MEMALOOSE STATE PARK Elevation 100’ 110 sites Located on the Columbia River. 45 sites with full
hook-ups, RV’s to 60’ and 60 tent spaces. Showers, RV dump station. Historical interest point and
views. Reservations accepted. Discovery season rates. Tent sites are $19, full hook up is $24.
Reservations 800-452-5687 Phone (541) 478-3008

Should probably figure this out quick to make sure spots are open.

We're making it a day trip. Thought about camping but probably not.

There have been a couple question about the "scoring" of fish for the tournament. I've modified the original post to include some clarifications. but I'll quote it here as well.

Submitted fish will be judged by length measured to the closest 1/8 of an inch. Mouth must be closed and up against the vertical portion of a hawg trough or bump board. In the event of a tie, the next largest fish of the tied participants will determine the higher position.

As always if you have questions, don't hesitate to send me a PM.

Procedural questions (maybe obvious to non-first-timers):
  • Is there any check IN on the morning, before fishing?
  • If not, where/when do we pick up our tourney sticker or whatever needs to be in the photos?
  • If not, where do we get the waiver and who and how do we send it in?

Thanks!

Also, if one does not have a hawg trough prior to game day, will they be available to purchase anywhere nearby?
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.
