I am looking over my install stuff and find myself baffled by the attached pic.  I am guessing I just hook up the power part and ignore the rest... right?  Also - does it matter which end of the transducer faces forward?  AND do I need to put in a fuse?  Thanks

Just hook up the power cable and forget the rest.

I ve heard it doesn't matter which way you mount it but why not just mount it the way they show in the directions just to be sure. Are you shooting thru the hull or having it in the water? They say the  down scan signal can be greatky diminished on shoot thru applications but i think they are talking about a boat hull and not a thin piece of plastic.

To fuse or not to fuse topic has been discussed here in length. I personally have never run a fuse and had no issues, i guess it's a cheap part to have more piece of mind though. It is also another point where corrosion can occur. If i was installing a finder on something with a charging system then i would definetly use a fuse.

Hope this helps rev

Installed the transducer... Just hooped it down. Hopefully no air bubbles. How will I know when I get it on the water if I need to pull it and reapply?

Not real sure with DSI 'ducer. with the standard sonar i had air bubbles and it seemed to have alot of surface clutter that couldn't be adjusted out and the depth would fluctuate drastically.

Just compare it to the demo mode to see if it looks similar.

In a system where aan alternator is used to run the atterysystem a fuse is a must.  Where just a battery is used, with no charging system, you can get away with no fuse because the current flow does not spike.

Sorry for the typos.  No fuse is necessary in a system that uses just  a battery.

is that dsi or hdi? i have the dsi gps elite 4 with transducer shooting thru the hull and am thinking of getting a sidearm for the ducer as it sucks right now at seeing fish and sidearm for ducer water direct contact is only thing to do to MAYBE? see fish better....it works ok for depth and gps is awesome, ecspecially for the fog conditions. am on the verge of getting the hdi model soon.

John - I would suggest you smear some dielectric grease on every connection, including those bayonet connections and the pins and plugs at the finder.  And if you have any splices in wires - solder them, and cover the joint with heat shrink or silicone and tape wrap.  If not, salt water and salt air will cause problems after a couple times out.  I learned the hard way  :-\

Grease on everything. So here it is fully completed and charged!  The little loop attached to a carabiner in the hull to keep the box from moving around. I was original long gonna try Velcro on the bottom  but decided not to.
