My 13 year-old daughter (nanguspup) has proven herself on the local lakes and sound so now she's bugging me to get her out on the ocean and wednesday looks like it might be a good day for it.

She's growing like a weed and I'm hesitant to go buy her a new Drysuit but it would be irresponsible to take her out without the right equipment so I was hoping somebody might have a suit they could sell me or rent/loan me for a couple days this week.

She's 5'4" and weighs 90 lbs...anything would be very much appreciated

I throw my 11 year old daughter (12 tomorrow), in a large when we go out.  With a PFD and decent boots, the extra length in the legs and arms has not been a problem.  I mention this because finding a used large dry suit is a lot easier than a youth size, and she'll have room to grow.

There are also articles out there that specifically say dry suits are supposed to be loose fit.

I have one you could borrow for the weekend if you like.

The Kokatat youth suits are $300-ish with typical coupons from ODP.  But at 5'4 she might be at the top end of fitting those.  Other option is to get her a regular suit that's still got a bit of growing room.  According to the Kokatat sizing chart a women's medium fits heights 5'4"-5'8".  It'll be baggier than heck on her to start with as skinny as she sounds, but she'll fill out a bit over the next few years.

there are also some lowend suits from Mythic.  Certainly check around as far as the product quality, but these basic suits might be an option for someone that may grow out of it in a few years.  www.mythicdrysuits.com

This is Tori in the large mens suit.

She was 10 at the time, and under 100 pounds.  She'll be 12 tomorrow and is around 110 pounds now.

Figured I should post a report for our trip. Shelby (aka Nanguspup) did great...too great really, She hardly gave me a chance to fish but I really enjoyed seeing her catch fish and have fun.

Thanks Lee (Tori) for lending her the drysuit. You were absolutely right with the sizing...too big is perfect and it gives them room to grow into.

Here's a short video from the trip:

Nice video Gordon. Thanks for sharing it with us all.

Looks like Shelby is hooked..... love to see that happen.
Life is short---live it tall.

She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

That looks like an awesome time with the kid. She's a natural for sure. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to control a boat on her own. Nice job.

That's a great vid! I am looking forward to sharing that kind of thing with my kids. They are only showing moderate interest so far, but hopefully soon. I've been taking them out in the surf to swim in the breakers with wetsuits on so they get used to getting tumbled and don't panic. Fun times. Hopefully they'll catch the fever soon.
