I'm debating on heading out on the Columbia tomorrow, giving Davis Bar a shot, but hoping to hear anybody's thoughts on go or no go, anybody fishing today?

Weather looks like it may hold, and the rain was light today, so I'm optimistic.

Any thoughts?  Thanks.

I was out there Sunday, the water was moving pretty fast, and no fish were being caught.  Good luck if you go, let us know how you did.

I was out Sunday also and the conditions were definitely fishable.  Visibility was about 2 feet but a nice green hue.  Marked several fish an hour and heard of 6 fish caught.  One boat had picked up 3.
With the turbidity on the Willy so high, Davis might be good.  Willy fish will sometimes mill around that area waiting for the mud to clear out.

salemite, was that you who pedaled up to say hi?  I turned to continue the conversation and *poof*  you were gone.

I was thinking about heading out tomorrow as well.

What time are you heading out?

I was out there on Saturday and Sunday. (But from a power boat)
What spot said is right on.

Just drove over the 205 bridge. Columbia looks blown to me I wouldn't bother with the low vis and cold water temps.

Looking at the tides, I'd like to fish the incoming tide in the afternoon.  I'm guessing fish will be close to the bank, getting out of the main current.

Yes that was my wife and I out there.  It was the maiden voyage in her native mariner.  We spent too much time configuring her boat and didn't have much time to fish.  You seemed to be doing well in the current, it took us a while to catch up to you and by the time we did we had to turn back.   Kids were at the babysitter and we were already late.  We will be back on Saturday though.

I didn't get more than 3 passes before the sun went down
Saw one fish netted, but not much else.

That's big of you, but in my book 20 fish for 50 boats is not a good bite. This is why I don't fish for salmon much. (I actually enjoy catching fish ;D )

I just got back from Davis Bar.  I fished from 10am-2pm.  Lots of powerboats trolling and on anchor, but I was the only kayaker in site.  I like the area, and marked several ledges and good spots that should hold fish.

I only saw one salmon caught, and it was wild, and none of the powerboaters were having any luck either.

I did manage to haul in my first fish in the new kayak though!  as I reeled in, it looked like I had two herring in tow, but somehow a smolt managed to impale himself on my stinger hook.

Visibility wasn't very good, and it was windy and choppy, but fishable none the less.  Everyone said yesterday was a much better day.  (It's always the case)

On my way home, I stopped at Next Adventure to pick up a rescue knife, and I'm in the process of securing it to my PFD now.  I had one of those O.S. moments when I snagged up on someone else's left behind braid and couldn't free it.  In the process, I also got that left behind braid stuck in my mirage drive, and I had to pull out the drive to free it. I managed to get my leatherman out of its sheath and was able to cut the line, but I was in a bad spot by the pilings and it could have gotten really bad in a hurry.  I don't want to be fumbling around again like that in heavy current.

FYI, if you don't have a rescue knife, get one!

I will be back there on Saturday for the clinic.

I guess I set the bar low when it comes to springers.

In my mind, I'm glad when I read that someone doesn't fish for salmon...kind of like someone not liking my homebrew hard apple cider,  More For ME  >:D
