Over the weekend of 28-30 March I went on my last fishing trip in the PNW, to chase some rockfish and get one last bit of bottom fishing in.
it is my last trip because I will be leaving at the end of the month and my license expired on the first.
the weather and ocean conditions were looking...Iffy at best, but I went anyway because I had to get it in.  Friday proved windy and choppy, and I only caught a few greenling.  It was the best looking day of the weekend, so my morale was way low.  I decided to see what Saturday held, which didn't look good cause it called for 9 foot swells and double digit winds.  i got lucky to say the least, everything lined up just right, the wind was minimal and the swells were large, long and slow.  after i fished Sail and Seal rock for a few hours i got brave and pushed out to the wreck of the Anacortes, my FF died on day one, so i found the site by using my navionics app on my phone.  once I got there I was in the money, fish came fast and easy like it does at Hobuck, after a while it was getting late so i headed back in to  set up camp at shipwreck point.  that last camp was bittersweet, the knowledge of this being my last night with one more day to fish was hard.  I drank beer and built a fire, a big fire to chase away the cold.  Sunday morning had even bigger swells, making launching fun.  Not expecting surf I didn't lock everything down, so after the launch I had to land and pick up all my floating gear.  I went straight to the wreck where I found fish the day before, it did not disappoint.  started off strong by catching a big ass cabezon, right around 24 inches, then a 6 drop streak that produced 9 fish, with loads more after that.  I came back in around noon feeling the peace inside that only comes with a good day out in the ocean.  the weather changed fast, rain then sun, while in the middle of a downpour I could see the sun on both sides of the clouds.  normally I would have a load of amazing photos to go with my report, but this time I made a video, which is why it took so long to make this report.  it is currently uploading on youtube, once it is done ill post it up.  I just hope I did the scenery and the ocean justice in making it and it doesn't bore you once you get a chance to watch it, its about 20 minutes of fish catching action and amazing scenery long.

on a side note I have to thank all of you for the experience here, in this group are some of the coolest people I have ever met.  the raw guts, the camaraderie, the goodwill and the willingness to give, many of you I count among my closest friends and it truly pains me to leave.  You have all taught me a little about yourself and allowed me to learn a lot about myself.  I am truly grateful and find myself lucky to have met you all.

Thanks for posting the video - glad you were able to get out and had a good trip.  I think I need to try that area with a kayak next time I'm there!

Best of luck to you!

Fil, Great fishing with you over the past year, but I don't believe you'll be gone for long. You'll be back around to this part of the world, and there's a lot of fishing that you still need to do. You're infected.

   Damn Fil,
 You are impressive.
 Great video.........
I'd say you are leaving with some serious awesomeness. Loved all the double hook-ups  that was super cool.

Best of luck to you in your next adventure. Been a pleasure to know and fish with you.

I must have missed the thread about you picking up your steaks and pitching your tent elsewhere.  Where are you headed?  I assume it's the .mil sending you there?

Way to go, Fil. Memory serves, that's about a year long course, right?

Since you'll be in the Potomac/ Chesapeake area, look up the groups there if you have the time. Chesapeake Bay has some great fishing coming up soon too... And don't forget eastern shad and eels at the Conowingo Dam.

Great video.  I've always wanted to fish the Neah Bay Area. I'm planning my first trip in late June. Since I'm new to the area, I was going to stay at snow creek resort.  Best of luck in your new adventures Captain.
