Hey guys I had a quick question about a possible fishing location. Has anyone ever launched into the Columbia over near washougal? There is a boat ramp there next to a Ford dealership and I was curious if there was any kayak fishing opportunity in that area. I always see alot of boats plunking around that area, but was not sure how the current is? I live right next to this and it would be convenient if there was good fishing.

I like that place.  You need to pay to launch but it's a really nice facility.  I've launched there a few times for salmon fishing in the early fall(anchoring and running wobblers).  There are plenty of spots around there that should hold smallmouth.

Kcin00,

I live in Camas and have fished out of that launch   and got my first Coho and Sturgeon there. The Power Lines is a popular hog line spot and Lady Island has a hole or two for sturgeon.

As Rawk mentioned there are bass around Camas Slough and Lady Island. Walleye are supposed to be available around Ough Reef a bit upstream from the launch.

I've floated the Washougal from Hathaway Park (not yet in my yak) and done well on Steelhead from a buddy's drift boat. Drift anchors are NOT an easy/safe task in a yak, IMO.

Let me know if you'd like to go out there together some time. It was just announced that Saturday is a one day extension of the Spring Chinook season.

PM me if interested.

The current and winds can be a challenge and I wouldn't recommend doing it alone. You should have the right safety gear and some experience to try it.

Met wdyaker15 today, a Naval Officer stationed on the Nimitz out of Everett. We left his Pro Angler home & fought >20 kt winds and driving rain in the TI but had a great, if fishless, day. The parking lot was packed and saw lots of PBers, no yaks. Only heard of a few catches. We anchored up and pulled Kwikfish and Maglips, no joy.

Current was strong and we were hitting >8 Kts with severely reefed sail and even managed 5 Kts against the current on the home stretch. Sure would have hated to try and pedal against that in his PA. The standing waves on the east end of Lady Island are impressive.

Hope to see you again wd before you ship out. Come back any time.

Just a quick question,
since We have a Oregon fishing license, do we need to have a Washington license ?

Thanks

Not if you fish the Columbia mainstream. Oregon license with Columbia River salmon tag are ok.

Camas Slough and the Washougal River do require WA license.
