With only two hours to spare I decided to huck a plunking rig off the Sellwood park dock.  A PB'r runs along the dock about ten feet out and  I tell him which direction my line is, which is intentionally away from any other trollers.  Well, I remind him two more times, as he gets close enough to force me to reel in.  Each time he plucks one earphone out of his otherwise empty scull and nods.  Finally, as I'm momentarily engaged in a friendly conversation with another bankie, he runs right over my line, entangling everything into a giant mess.

I'm not usually a bankie, but this is certainly a good reminder that we all should respect those not fortunate enough to fish from a boat.  Thanks for enduring my rant.  I feel better now.  :-)

Great point and I agree with you...except for the idiots who holler out to you "you're in range" as if they own all the water within casting distance...I've run rivers that you could cast across and had to run the gamut of these idiots casting intentionally at me.

It comes down to mutual respect for all...which you have to give in order to receive.

At the end of the day we're all a bunch of like minded individuals trying to accomplish the same result...catch fish!

He's not the only one.  I've made plenty of friends on the Wynoochee.

Yeah, I totally agree where the river is narrow, but this is the Willy!  It's probably a thousand feet wide and I may have tossed it out 80 or so with the headwind.  Mutual respect is the key here.

I try to give some margin when I'm trolling and there are bankies, but sometimes they get all agitated over nothing... I don't know if they really think they can cast that far or if they don't understand the geometry of the fact that their line is on the bottom of the river and I'm on the top ???

But anyway it's a good point. I was a bankie for a long time as a kid unless my buddy's canoe was available, so I've been there.

I've banked fished Puget Sound some and pinged a buzzbomb off a hull or two.  "Oops, sorry", wave, wave ...  "Smile and wave, boys. Just smile and wave." My thought is, if you want to fish that close to shore, get outta the boat.

And on the other side of the equation, when in the yak I yield to bankies as though I was one of them.

I do understand the narrow water issue.
