I'd like to get down to Tillamook Bay for some Crabbing and fishing inside the bay, and wondering if there is a good place to launch, other than the boat launch.  I'm looking to go crabbing in Crab Harbor, and hoping there is a stealth launch directly across from Crab Harbor?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

There is a car top launch across from the boat ramp, near the Coast Guard station, that puts you a bit closer to crab harbor.  It is best at high tide, but not a bad drag when the tide is out.

The spot ndogg mentioned is where I usually launch when I am fishing anywhere between the jetties to the coast guard hole.  It can be a real slog during a really low tide so plan accordingly.  I like to launch a couple hours before low tide and fish until just after high tide.  Be careful about the pinch point just before you get to the three graces if you're heading out towards the jetties.  The current can get really cooking through there.

Thanks Guys.  I know that spot.  That's where I usually pump for ghost shrimp before heading to fish off the rocks at the jetty.

Yet another reason why it's a cool launch.   :)

I live in Garabaldi and have a Jackson Big Tuna , drop me a line if you want to take a newbie out in the bay , I'm working towards getting out in the ocean. Love the trout lake fishing here also fun for the grand kid in the future I hope, he's only 2 1/2 right now.

There are places to get a boat in the water over by BayOcean County park but it is likely a longer drive.  Check it out and see if its worth doing for you.  Less exposure to current and wind, at least at times.

edit:   look at Memaloose point for one spot but is a fair piece to go.

I'm heading down to Garabaldi tomorrow for crabbing and Fishing.  Meeting up with Jojopotato at the launch behind the fish cleaning building near the Old Mill that Rawkfish pointed out.  Will be putting in around 7-7:30, dropping pots on the way out and fishing the south jetty until high tide.

Anyone is welcome to join.  I will be on UHF channel 71, and walkie talkie channel 5-1.

Thanks for all of the help and advice.  Hopefully the reports will be good!

Depends on the tide.  Sometimes it is rocks to mud's edge. ;)

It was a fun day in Tillamook bay yesterday.  Jojopotato and I hammered the black rocks along the south jetty.  We also caught a few greenling and an undersized Cabazon, a starfish, and one huge red rock crab on a crab snare.

Crabbing overall was lousy, lots of undersized crabs, and females.

Thanks to the member who posted a pic of the Berkley 4" minnows.  We fished those with a round 3/8oz round head jig painted glow in dark.  The Black Rocks hammered both both colors we had in these baits.

Here's a pic of Jojopotato with his first black rock in his kayak, along with my limit of black rocks and the giant rock crab.

I took video of the day, but it will take me a while to edit.

Weather was perfect.  Thanks to Rawkfish on timing of the tides.  We rode low tide out, and the incoming tide back in.

Looking forward to doing it again.
