Looking like several days next week have potential. I'd like to try fishing Depoe Bay for the first time. I read over the Yakangler.com "how to" for this fishery but since I've only fished out of DB once in a powerboat I am looking for general advice for the kayak angler. I understand the rules about VHF and air horns going in and out of DB.

Are you looking to get a little pre-ORC fishing in ?

I'd suggest checking past threads about ORC. Lots of information, maps, etc. for you to look over.
A lot of reading too........... ::)

  Good luck out there.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Move through "the hole" quickly, stay out of the channel line that is a straight line from the entrance of the hole out to the buoy, stay off of the north and south reefs.  Small reefs and other structure that holds fish can be found north and south along the coast and all of the fish are found less than a mile from the shoreline so there's no reason to go out that far.  Like Mark said, there is TONS of info about fishing Depoe Bay in older ORC threads.

Don't tease the grey and white fish.  They bite!

J/K!!!!

Actually, keep an eye peeled for whales.

I've seen whales out of Depoe Bay almost every time I've been out there.
Have your camera ready.

Wednesday is the only day my schedule opens up for a while & I think we may be lucky enough to have perfect coastal conditions for DB. I'll be heading out early so maybe ill see one of you adventurous out there!

There is a risk of building swells on Monday.

Jeff, I'm sure you have shared this somewhere before, but can you share again where you are getting your reports on the swells and ocean conditions for us newbies please.  I'm sure many of us will be heading out to the ocean for the first time, and I for one, don't want to end up on the news.

Thanks.

Don't go alone. Go with someone preferably that has experience out there.
