Anyone recently been fishing on Lake Roosevelt?

I'm headed over there for Memorial Day weekend to my parent's place. They're between 7-bays/Two-Rivers, and I'm debating bringing my kayak over to get out on the lake. I've fished at the state park several times without catching a thing (my wife caught a beautiful 9" rainbow... one time...).

With as big as the lake is, and limited shore access, having a boat makes a big difference. And since I don't have access to a fishing boat, I figure getting in a yak will help improve my odds quite a bit more. I'm shooting for walleyes first, and if I can't get much there I'll go for kokanee and/or rainbows.

If anyone has been on the lake on their yak, and you have any tips/suggestions I'd appreciate it!

Roosevelt is great for all of the above.  Talk to the locals a bit to see where they are getting hits.  Trolling in the yak would work well.  If you have a fish finder it is a bit easier to tell how deep the fish are, but you should get action on rapalas and/or wedding ring setups as well as trolling my personal favorite, Panther Martin lures.  Colors can vary a bit, but I have had good luck with pinks and blues there.  also broke back minnows in rainbow trout look.  Good luck, give a report when you are done.
When in doubt, throw a line out!

Thanks, I do have a fish finder so I'll be set there. Talked with the locals a lot about fishing, but not having a fishing boat has killed any chances of going to find the fish anywhere. Thanks for the tips, I'll report when I get back!

The Rainbows and the Kokes are good sized in there too.  Very fun fishery when you get into them....

Reporting back, no fish, not even a nibble. Paddled about 1/2 to porcupine bay and then out to the mouth of the Spokane and everywhere in-between several times. Marked a few fish here and there, but never really got into them. To top it off, the lake was so low that pulling the yak up the boat launch after fishing was just a blast...

Not sure if I'll haul the yak back there again, I've enjoyed paddling out in the sound for crabbing, shrimping, and fishing, but it just seemed so hit-or-miss with the fishing on Roosevelt that "running over" to some of the other fishing spots ends up eating up a good hunk of time.
