Along the south jetty 100 or so yards from the corner into the jaws about 20-40 yards off the rocks , I also pulled and released a small cabazon , also trout will be opening soon and we were hitting them hard from the bank last year heading into the Miami river.

The jetty sounds like a bad idea. Conditions can change quickly and most of these events you get a collection of guys, many with limited experience. Why not single largest salmon?

Anyone interested in teaching me to salmon fish?

Figure out the most likely time for the salmon run there in Tillamook Bay (Kings or Coho or chum) pick  likely date and " make it happen".
The interest is out there. Even if you start out with only a handful of people-it will grow. Folks like to compete and swap stories with like minded others.
Who knows-----in a couple of years this could grow into a "premier event".
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Gimme Shelter started out as a friendly meet and fish with just a handful of people.  Now it's 200+.

And that was only in 8 years.

There are salmon in Tillamook aren't there ????

Yes, there are salmon there on the Spring, and Fall.
And there are also a zillion power boats trolling up a storm there when the fish are cruising through.
It most certainly would be a sight to see having a kayak regatta in the mix.

You really just need a location and enough people interested to participate.

If you want to make it interesting, you can make it a "money between friends" sort of deal by collecting a small entry fee and splitting the collected money between the top finishers.
(*feel free to consult your taxa attorney about legalities here)

If you want it to be official with prizes and sponsors etc.., then things get complicated.

With regard to the rules for competition... you're free to set them as you choose.  Generally, AOTD (Angler of the Day) is based off the scoring for our AOTY (Angler of the Year) with points given as per the AOTY rules using the points per inch by species system.

Brian

That is how the Sunset Bay Angler Of The Day Kayak Fishing Challenge started, with 7 guys trying to take each others money and claim the bragging rights.  You basically plan an event , announce it and hope you get a few people to show up. Hit up all the local stores for a prize donation and i'm sure you will get a few to donate something.

I will reply to your email with a little more info.
See ya on the water..
Roy

I figured Dennis would be down with some swag but, I'm surprised that Marie let him.

I'd be down with fishing on Father's Day!  Springers or bottom fish?
(I'd be happy to show you how to salmon fish Jojo.  It's very simple and gives you lots of time to think.... Lol!)

I'd be interested in trying to make it, but can't commit to any dates in June (too much going on and will be in TX part of that time).

Curious: What species would be available at that time for harvest (or will you allow non-harvestable species with picture?) - I can't think of anything besides black rockfish and maybe lingcod that would be common. Maybe eel? You mentioned crab - that would certainly throw something into the mix. Cabezon won't be open yet of course.

Springers will be in full swing
Rockfish, Lingcod, Perch and Greenling are there all year
Sturgeon are hit and miss

Ah - good point on the perch. Good to know the jetti holds greenling; I'll have to toss something at them next time I'm there.

She wasn't there so I hope she doesn't back him out of it ,
he has lots of used gear there too so if enough of us stop by I think she may not mind.
